I really, really hate saying this, but his actions on immigration and border security tell me he's a globalist. He also signed off on CFR. He's not an originalist.
This one will be squishy in the Souter model.
7 - 2 in favor of a flavor of the month club constitution.

TED OLSEN Is who I think he will selectThat would be good, especially because of the way the democrats cheered about his wife getting killed in the Pentagon plane crash on 9/11.

"That means she was not blocked in committee by the jumping Jim Jeffords Dem Senate. What does that say about her?"...That a Federalist Society conservative who worked for *oil companies* can still be considered "mainstream."
Is Alabama not conservative enough for you?!

I'll conjecture Dubya has nominated someone that Spector will leave the gang of 14 for.

I would not put it past the Dems to use the late Barbara Olson as political fodder in confirmation hearings. They have no class whatsoever.

Next to Janice Rogers brown, Ted Olsen would be my choice.... They simply don't come more conservative than Ted.
Olsen openly voiced his objections to Alberto Gonzales's opinion concerning the Michigan case that challenged "Affirmative Action"

I do not believe Bush is rushing to a meeting with Specter to choose a SCOTUS nomination Maybe W told Specter he has to get an up or down vote commitment or else he nominates Robert Bork as a recess appointment in August.

If they do, I don't think they'll look very good to the voters. 9/11 still hurts, and messing with the memory of one who died in a plane is just plain COLD!

It will be an interesting shuffle. Because he really must, the Pres. will make Clarence Thomas Chief Justice. Judging from the President's M/O on such things he would then follow up with J. Rodgers Brown to the Supreme Court.
A Stevens vacancy could be filled with a Bush friend like Ted Olsen and with his wife being one of our martyrs of 9/11 he would be a popular choice whether or not the White House gets that yet.
