Right-Wing Phase Surely On Way Out
Times Record ^ | July 18, 2005 | Jack Moseley

What issues really concern the American people today? I would argue that they care and worry about much more than married gays, terrorists inside this country and heterosexuals who get pregnant and have abortions.

One issue that is growing in the minds of the American majority clearly is this: Just how far does the so-called conservative, religious right want to take this country? Different groups have different goals, of course, but zealous, self-anointed, "Christian" leaders really frighten me.

Funny how "Progressives" accuse "Conservatives" of forcing change.

Just how far do WE want to take this country?

Abortion-on-demand is still legal. Pornography is just about everywhere. Colleges from community colleges to the university push Islam as the Oppressed Peoples of the Decade, while condemnation of sin is called hate speech. Committees are going into churches prior to elections to make sure pastors' sermons don't endorse one party or candidate.

Yeah, we've really got a stranglehold on America. There's a time for fantasy, and a time to let go of childish things. This guy is still in the former.

"Committees are going into churches prior to elections to make sure pastors' sermons don't endorse one party or candidate."

Not all churches, just the ones prone to voting for conservatives.

He is soooooo absolutely wrong that he's totally irrelevant. How can this clown try to think for the majority of Americans. "Christian leaders frighten him". And I bet militant muslims, Osama, thugs in the streets, and Hillary Clinton, don't.

This isn't novel, what they're doing. The key to takeover is attacking Christians and Jews. Close the churches, round up the Rabbis....Not that I think that will happen in the U.S.A.; they're just going through the first stages,"enemy of my enemy" and such, thinking that they're clever.

We know who wins in the end.

Actually, I don't say "bless you" when people sneeze just because I felt like I was buying into the silly superstition that gave rise to the tradition. I make an exception for my wife, just to be nice. Still, it doesn't hurt anybody, and I don't care if anyone does it around me.

I imagine God's judgment frightens him most of all. As though a misunderstood, oppressed jihadi would have compassion. Saying "I hate Bush, too" won't cut it if Salim hears that you're gay, an infidel, a Jew, a Crusader, a blasphemer, etc..

Leading up to last year's election, the Left/Dems were doing their best to focus the electorate on the issues that according to polls they have an advantage on.

Ever since the election last year, the Dems/Left have been speaking of how to repackage these issues within the 'values' debate.

Through it all, one things remains unchanged though they never come out and explicity state it, and that is that in order for the rabble (as they see us) to enjoy these superior positions on health care, education, the economy, the environment, etc; we must unconditionally surrender on all social and cultural issues. We must accept judicially imposed gay marriage. We must accept amnesty for illegal aliens. We must accept a Second Amendment without meaning. We must accept having a judiciary that strikes down one restriction on abortion after another. We must accept racial preferences, and the continued importation of people eligible for them (though on this the GOP is just as horrible).

Maybe one or both of these methods will eventually succeed. Certainly if the economy goes bad, or if the situation in Iraq falls apart, then even someone like Hillary has a chance. If they nominate someone like Gov Warner of Virginia, then they may be able to ride another phony-moderate to the White House once again.

But one thing is for sure, if the finaly say on most social and cultural issues is to rest with the people, then conservative values will win out in most places. Of course, I don't see any reason to believe this will happen unless Bush does what he promised and gives us Scalias and Thomases.

Terrorists inside this country

I'm not sure there's anything else WORTH worrying about at this point.

Just how far does the so-called conservative, religious right want to take this country?

I'm thinking the Shah of Iran, or Generalissimo Franco of Spain are the models we should be looking at right about now.

Iraq Turning Out To Be New Vietnam
by Jack Moseley

snip

I’m sure I will be called an unpatriotic defeatist and be accused of giving aid and comfort to our enemies as a result of this column, but it’s time to consider the possibility of losing Mr. Bush’s pre-emptive war in Iraq despite remarkable participation in Iraqi elections.

snip

All the money in the world, not to mention the price we and our coalition partners are paying in dead and wounded soldiers and civilians, cannot balance the hatred that so many of the very people we are trying to help now feel toward us. Even if democracy prevails, we may not like what the people over there choose.

Other nations have tried and failed to conquer the Arab world. While our goal is not to conquer, failure again should be viewed as at least a possibility, even for the most powerful nation on the face of the planet.

Use "Gott Segnen Sie" (German) "Dieu Vous bénissent" (French) or "El Dios Le bendice" (Spanish) next time, and if a Socialist goes off on you again, tell them they're just "Wiccan Magic Words." That'll calm Mom right down, LOL!

When you look behind the contentions of religious zealots who somehow also seem bent on unraveling the so-called welfare state...
Anyone who has a brain SHOULD be bent on unraveling the so-called welfare state!!!!

...right-wing initiatives, ranging from privatizing Social Security to reducing the role of state and local governments in employee retirement programs, have run into massive public opposition.
Somehow they associate privatization of Social Security and controlling Public Employee Pension benefits with Religion? WTF?

I am an atheist and I'm sick of thier constant Christian bashing. This type of rediculous fear mongering is just making them look like the complete morons that they are. Unfortunately, the brainwashed libs will be quoting this cr@p as fact.

This is just a part of the overall war on morality. Once the churches are corrupted or destroyed - anything goes.

If I were religious, I'd say the devil is at play here.

Whatever happened to ol' Satan, anyway? I don't here much about him anymore. Did he Die? Did he lose the battle and give up? If not, what's he been up to lately? Do you care?

I haven't been to church in many years - does your preacher ever talk about satan & evil? Or is it all "love thy neighbor" and "turn the other cheek" type stuff?

The televangelists talk about evil alot, but only the evil of NOT supporting their lavish lifestyle? How can so many grown people be so stupid?

"Magick," not magic. The spellings of the uninitiated are so lacking in charm, LOL.

Yep, George W. Bush just may be the Herbert Hoover of the 21st century.

"The glory of a nation rests upon the character of her men."
-- President Herbert Hoover.

"Character doesn't matter."
-- attributed to President Bill Clinton

Their religion exercising domain over "every aspect and institution of human society"?

I don't want it either. "Taliban" is right. Fortunately, these types of Christians are really few and far between.
