It was billed as a strategy session for student activists, but it turned into the launch of Bill Clinton's latest role in American politics. The one-time commander-in-chief is now cheerleader-in-chief for his wife's undeclared but unconcealed run for the White House in 2008.
The last Democrat president abandoned his notes to announce that Hillary Clinton was ready to win back America's highest office for their party.
He was speaking at a seminar of college liberals in front of fellow high-ranking Democrats in Washington, the day after his wife's office launched a revamped website.
Officially, it is part of her bid to retain her seat as a New York senator next year yet, in design, it resembles last year's campaign sites of President George Bush and Democrat challenger John Kerry.
Mr Clinton's message was that the party has to win back support in "red" (Republican) America. Calling himself "the world's most famous sinner", he spoke of a Pentecostal minister in his home state of Arkansas who had voted for him but then backed Mr Bush because "ever since you left, nobody in your party talks to us any more". But, he said, the pastor added: "I would vote for Hillary. I love her."
Since her election to the Senate in 2000, Senator Clinton has been occupying ground traditionally deemed vote-winning for Republicans; her advisers include Mark Penn, the centrist Democrat strategist who helped British Prime Minister Tony Blair hold the middle ground in the general election.

i'd like to move to australia in january '09.
thanks,
ken
You'll be very welcome, but don't give up without a fight!
Calling himself "the world's most famous sinner"....
-----
Well, more like "the world's most famous impeached criminal reprobate excuse for a President"....fits much better. Well, we knew he would start stumping for this accomplice-in-crime, Mao-ary. She certainly could not do it on her own...her real self is so well known now, she will have a very difficult time lying her way out of her now-well-known persona. The standard Clinton modus operandi each and every time they get caught at YET ANOTHER CRIME OR MAJOR LIE!!
A real beautiful pair -- attention all you kool-aid drinkers -- here comes Mr. and Mrs. America, your idols!!!
And for the conservatives after her possible election:
Well, if republicans are smart they work to draw out the Hyde-Hillary. Meaning at every opportunity, she needs to be driven to that shriek level she is trying so hard to keep concealed. That wouldn't take a whole lot!
However, I was speaking to my family about things going South in 08 and beyond, and how I might send them to another country.
When pressed, I could only suggest Australia, although I'm not sure about what part.
Hillary's shriek is music to Republican ears; it will pave the way to her downfall.
There are few places in Australia that would not please. You like heat or cold?
Hillary has been a registered candidate for Pres since 1992.
That title makes quite an image.
Especially when hillary rates as a heavyweight.
I've lived in Pennsylvania, and Florida, among others. Both heat and cold are fine, but I do like to see the seasons change. ;^)
Melbourne is the place or you! If you love great restaurants, sporting events and the change in seasons (as well as sensational local wineries!), you'll love Melbourne!
knowing what i experienced of the pubbies, they'll put a bob dope up against hillary in '08.
the pubbies won't put up a winning candidate.
boomer women and their castrati will want to see a female president in their lifetimes.
Of course, the love of warmth has it's limits...as of this moment (5:20 pm), it's 48 Australianese degrees - 118 Americanese. The grill is preheated without touching it.
I think Clintoon missed the pastor's subtlety: God instructs us all to, "Love the sinner."
LOL
"boomer women and their castrati"
LOL!
Dear Aussie, I'd like to hear more about the land down under. Am I correct to understand that without a huge bank account that older than 35 is not welcome?
Does this guy know something we don't know?
