(FindLaw) -- As the scandal over the leak of CIA agent Valerie Plame's identity has continued to unfold, there is a renewed focus on Karl Rove -- the White House deputy chief of staff whom President Bush calls his political "architect."
Newsweek has reported that Matt Cooper, in an e-mail to his bureau chief at Time magazine, wrote that he had spoken "to Rove on double super-secret background for about two min[ute]s before he went on vacation ..." In that conversation, Rove gave Cooper "big warning" that Time should not "get too far out on Wilson."
Rove was referring, of course, to former Ambassador Joe Wilson's acknowledgment of his trip to Africa, where he discovered that Niger had not, in fact, provided uranium to Iraq that might be part of a weapons of mass destruction (WMD) program.
Cooper's email indicates that Rove told Cooper that Wilson's trip had not been authorized by CIA Director George Tenet or Vice President Dick Cheney; rather, Rove claimed, "it was ... [W]ilson's wife, who apparently works at the agency on [WMD] issues who authorized the trip." (Rove was wrong about the authorization.)
Only the special counsel, Patrick Fitzgerald, and his staff have all the facts on their investigation at this point, but there is increasing evidence that Rove (and others) may have violated one or more federal laws. At this time, it would be speculation to predict whether indictments will be forthcoming.

"There could be great danger for Rove. He might LAUGH himself to death."
**DING_DING**
"WE HAVE A WINNAH!!"
And yet CNN writes that gloom and DOOM article aimed at Rove?
LOL and thank GOD no LIEberal bias over at CNN!~}
Not quite true ... 'oblivion' can only be seen from their rear-view mirrors at this point.
"I think Cooper needs to be put on double secret probation"
Matt "Flounder" Cooper
John Dean? The John Dean? Why do they always trot out this piece of garbage for commentary?
Liked his wife though.....
"I thought he'd actually done it. I thought Dean had actually written an entire piece without mentioning Watergate. It took until the very last word, but hey..."
Hah hah. Well that's his whole handle isn't it? Without Watergate he's a complete zero. Not likely anybody would want him on their show. Besides, he looks like Chester the Child Molester to me.
I think the important question to raise here, is why did the NYT essentially come to Rove's defense with their revelation today? It certainly must be a stronger reason than selling newspapers. What's coming next? They apparently know who Judith Miller's source is and must know a lot more than they're telling. Is this a peace offering to prevent some of Rove's "dirty trick" retaliation against the Times? Inquiring minds want to know!
No kidding...
Always a day late and a few dollars short.....
And signed up with the wrong team (again!)
But now, even if they won't SAY it, I think many on the other side KNOW the truth now. And that's taking the steam out of this story. This time next week, I don't think there will be much going on here. The NYT article is a bit like the evidence of the phony Rather docs--people can keep thrashing around, but the writing is on the wall.
Roger that ~ the Clear Channel station here (KPNW 50K watts) has been running a George Soros paid for add attacking Karl Rove, during Rush's show ~ one the things it says is that Karl spells his name with a "K" just like the klan.
Who writes their childish crap. *sigh*
Never once did President Bush say that Saddam bought uranium (or any other substance) from Niger. NEVER!
If a DUer can prove me wrong I will donate $1,000 to DU, MoveOn, or the charity of their choice.
John Dean's sole distinction (before he was behind the Watergate break in and coverup) was being Barry Goldwater, Jr.'s roommate at military school. Do we really need to ask why this criminal is always trotted out to support the liberals?
That has to be a Rush parody. If not, I would love someone to post the audio of it. Hell, I want to hear the audio even if it is a Rush parody.
You know what I would love to see? John Dean locked in a room with G. Gordon Liddy and a sharpened pencil.
An unsharpened pencil would be better.
Or maybe just his thumb...
