< Half of the Democrat base opposes homosexual marriage. >

Oh, it's got to be much higher than that. The number is high across the country, D and R.

Leading Senate Judiciary Democrat Charles Schumer said Sunday that he intends to make gay marriage an issue in the upcoming confirmation battle over President Bush's pick to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.

First he was against gay marriage, now he's for it. With 4 countries already signed on and Canada teetering on the brink, Schumer has cast his sails in the direction of moral depravity. "Can't let them get ahead of us".

"'The top Democrat's mention of same-sex marriage in the same breath as his party's primary litmus test issue, abortion, raised a few eyebrows""

They just went over the cliff.

Watch for gay marriage to be a plank in the DEMS platform in 2008

""Bush will get no one confirmed. He will make recess appointments good for 17 months. That's the future we are looking at unless the Senate can get a 65 Repub majority.""

Rubbish

The Constitution didn't ban "sodomy" either but Justices Scalia, Thomas, and Rehnquist were the only ones who DISSENTED on the SCOTUS sodomy ruling:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_v._Texas (legalizing sodomy)

Scalia, Thomas, and Rehnquist just happen to also be the only judges who joined O'Connor in dissenting on the recent eminent domain case:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kelo_v._New_London
(eminent domain)

It seems the main conservative issue that Justice Kennedy is good for may be "affirmative action" issues? Justices Stevens, Souter and Ginsburg appear to be pretty far out in left field by comparison:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grutter_v._Bollinger (upholding Michigan University's right to use race as a criteria for admissions)
Rehnquist, Scalia, Kennedy, and Thomas dissented

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gratz_v._Bollinger (striking down Michigan University's point-based system of affirmative action)
Stevens, Souter, and Ginsburg dissented

"All questions are legitimate," Schumer told ABC's "This Week." "What is your view on Roe vs. Wade? What is your view on gay marriage?"

"They are going to try to get away with the idea that we're not going to know their views," Schumer complained. "But that's not going to work."

Response: "My view on that particular issue is irrelevant as any potential question before the court will be 'What does the Constitution say on the particular issue?' or 'What does existing federal law' say on the particular issue?' Any case before the court will be decided on those questions and the merits of the specific arguments in the case."

Go ahead Schumer, make it an issue - watch the American public's overwhelmingly negative response to you.
God almighty - I can NOT understand why so many people pander to and are terrified of a whooping 1% of the population ( if that )

Please do it Schumer - so the people who forgot what your party stands for can remember.

What business does Schumer have asking nominees whether they are married let alone whether they are gay!

Dating (Tired of ('what sign are you')? Building poor Senator (qualifies) FBI files? Brucie (staffer) wrote on list?

When is Charles SHOE-MAHH going to start demanding that pedophiles get what they want?

That will be left to the next generation of liberals to make the law of the land. The American Psychological Association is already laying down the groundwork for it.

Yes, they did say we couldn't apply litmus tests, so let them do it, then we know, and we won't even have to LOL

I like that one-sex phrase, personally, I would prefer even more, one gender union. It sure isn't a marriage, and if what they do can be called sex, it sure is a perverse taint on an otherwise beautiful gift.

"How does he suddenly have the chutzpah to ask that as a litmus question when he himself opposes it?" WABC Radio host Curtis Sliwa wondered Tuesday morning.

Because he lacks moral clarity, courage, and determination to keep his word.
