How does one become a Free Mason?
My grandfather is a very high level Free Mason but he's one from the Dominican Republic and he doesn't talk about it at all. Very frustrating...
Freemasonry has been a good association for my family. My father was one, my daughter was in Job's Daughters (which is very remarkable, because she isn't much of joiner in anything!)
Contact your local lodge & ask them.
"How does one become a Free Mason?"
All you have to do is tell a Mason that you want to join. A Mason will neve ask you if you want to join.
There is a petition, werein you are asked certain questions, such as "Do you seriously declare, upon your honor, that you firmly nelieve in the existence of God, the immortality of the soul, and the Divine authenticity of the Holy Bible?"
You also have to have all your limbs --- but this bit can be waived. (Left over from when it was a trade union.)
You'll need some referrals -- which can be provided for you.
And there is an investigation period, which is basically meeting you & your spouse.
But, to answer your question, GO ASK A MASON and EXPRESSLY ask to JOIN.
The key to becoming a Mason is really tricky.......you have to ask to join. In the past it was considered strictly forbidden for a Mason to ask another to join, as it was supposed to be of his own free will and accord. Many Masons took that to mean that they could not discuss membership at all.
This is no longer the case and most Masons will be glad to discuss Masonery and it's benefits and obligations to anyone who asks.
The other requirement is that you profess a belief in a higher being. (In my case, God.) You are not required nor encouraged to discuss your particular beliefs beyond this however.
Hope this helps, and I would encourage you to talk more to your grandfather.....you may find some pretty amazing things!
you just have to ask... Masons aren't really allowed to recruit new members, it's supposed to be your idea to join.
if you don't know any Masons other than your GrandFather, then goto your local Lodge and ask for a Masonic Information Booklet and if it appeals to you, ask for an application to join.
P.S. there is no bar in any of the Lodges though you can drink there.
