JULY 4 is a date firmly fixed in the consciousness of all Americans. Perhaps it should also be imprinted in the mind of Scots with a sense of history. Who was involved in the building of the White House? And who helped to start the American War of Independence? The surprising answer might be Scottish freemasons.

Why should we be interested in what Dead White European Men accomplished? </sarcasm>
Was Washington a Freemason???
Yes indeed!
You have to love this quote from the lodge's minutes book:
"One of the brothers was the revolutionary Paul Revere and on St Andrews night, November 30, 1773, it was recorded that the lodge meeting was adjourned as consignees of tea took up the Brethrens time."
Started it all, those trouble-making masons.
Yes, a very active one!
He took the oath of office on his masonic bible (a regular bible with the square and compasses on it, by the way).
Many, if not most, of America's founders were freemasons.
Thanks for finding that picture!
MamaB, ping!
How does one become a Free Mason?
My grandfather is a very high level Free Mason but he's one from the Dominican Republic and he doesn't talk about it at all. Very frustrating...
So they where part of the New World Order campaign???
Masons were prominent in early US and Canadian governments.
Actually, Washington's association with the masons is a bit overblown. He was a nominal member, at best, and never an active one. (The freemasons like to proclaim otherwise,
but it's not historically supported.)
The Statue of Liberty a gift from French Masons to American Masons..
Freemasonry has been a good association for my family. My father was one, my daughter was in Job's Daughters (which is very remarkable, because she isn't much of joiner in anything!)
Contact your local lodge & ask them.
"How does one become a Free Mason?"
All you have to do is tell a Mason that you want to join. A Mason will neve ask you if you want to join.
There is a petition, werein you are asked certain questions, such as "Do you seriously declare, upon your honor, that you firmly nelieve in the existence of God, the immortality of the soul, and the Divine authenticity of the Holy Bible?"
You also have to have all your limbs --- but this bit can be waived. (Left over from when it was a trade union.)
You'll need some referrals -- which can be provided for you.
And there is an investigation period, which is basically meeting you & your spouse.
But, to answer your question, GO ASK A MASON and EXPRESSLY ask to JOIN.
Does the fact that my grandfather is a high level Mason from the Dominican Republic help?
