MOSCOW, Russia - This week, one of the largest kosher supermarkets in Moscow suffered a pogrom. Located on Trifonovskaya Street, just several minutes walking from the Marina Roscha Community Center, this is the only kosher food store in Moscow that is supervised by the Russian Kashrut Department of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia.
Two young men wearing gas-masks aggressively entered the kosher supermarket shortly before it was to close, spraying an unidentified gas and bashing the sale goods of the store's shelves and displays. According to Rabbi Uri Spasskiy, who happened to be in the supermarket at the time of the pogrom, one of the men was holding a model of a Kalashnikov machine-gun in his hands.
The store managers and Jewish community officials immediately reported the incident to law enforcement agencies. The police have no doubt over the anti-Semitic nature of this violent episode, since the attackers shouted anti-Semitic slogans, glorifying Hitler, throughout the entire incident.
Alexander Boroda, the Chairman of the Board for the FJC Russia, publicly spoke about the attack on the 'Echo Moskvy' radio station. He felt that these persons were staff members of a nearby food store. He stated that these young men had visited the kosher store on two separate occasions. The first time, they came without masks, a fact that has helped the store's personnel to recognize the aggressors. While they wore masks the second time, the staff were still able to recognize them. "These persons were recognized and will be delivered to the police. One of them even has an SS tattoo on his body," explained Alexander Boroda.

Anti-semitism is a bad thing, and I hope the Russians avoid treating this as a minor annoyance. It's more than that.
But, I have to say: anyone in Russia who causes devastation while shouting out glorification of Hitler is really REALLY asking for trouble.

Seriously... what's with people idolizing a man who killed millions of their own countrymen? Same with the American Nazis.
If I remember right Anti Semitism was alive in well in the Soviet Union. I also notice that it seems that when the economy of some nations have problems there is a tendency to demonize Jews and blame them for the economic woes.
You hear this in any statement that claims Jewish control over various enterprises. Whether it be entertainment, banking, retail and/or government.

The same thinking is involved. You let this happen to the Jews (or any vulnerable minority) and sooner than later it will be happening to your own people. We've seen it with hijacking, we've seen it with homicide bombers, we've seen it in the Serbo-Croation concentration camps....it's a slippery slope - you let it happen to Jews and it's going to come back and visit itself upon you.

Moozies, Baathists, Nazis, Stalinists . . . they're all starting to blur. Good. The distinctions among them were confusing to begin with and served only to needlessly complicate things.
The people who committed this abomination aren't "identity" idiots who think the Russians are the "true Israelites." These are people who hate HaShem and His Torah, plain and simple. It's time that Jews stopped thinking themselves as perpetual victims of oppression and re-read the books of Joshua and Judges to learn how their ancestors dealt with scum like this.

Hence why the Jews for the Preservation of Firearms comment is actually quite valid. One of the best arguments I ever heard for private ownership of firearms was that Condi's father used his shotgun to drive away KKK harassers from his house at night.
How I miss our local Jewish delicatessen that had the most yummy corned beef sandwiches with the greatest dill pickles. For dessert I would buy a couple bars of Halvah.
They've been gone for several years now, but in that case I don't think they were driven out. It was a small family operation.

Hopefully we will get a followup for this story. Too often we read stories here but never read the followup.
