Emergency Synod resolution introduced on U.S. Supreme Court
Contributed by William Winslow
Sunday, 03 July 2005
In the wake of the sudden resignation of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day OConnor, an emergency resolution has been introduced before Synod delegates that would urge President Bush and the U.S. Senate to use a bipartisan process of openness and consultation as their standard for nominating and confirming future justices.
The proposed resolution notes that OConnor the nations first female Supreme Court Justice has been a moderating influence on the court. Bush has lauded her as a discerning and conscientious judge.
The framers of the proposed action, endorsed by seven regional Conference delegations, were deliberate in not suggesting any religious litmus test for future justices. Rather, the measure would call upon the nomination process to be fair, truthful and beyond reproach. The proposal still requires full Synod approval.

The United Church of Christ is headed for the shipwreck of apostasy in affirming "marriage equality" (translation: Adam and Steve in "wedlock") yet the SCOTUS vacancy is what generates an "Emergency Resolution."
The Democratic party at prayer, as usual.

The process for confirming justices is already defined in the Constitution. "A bipartisan process of 'openness and consultation'" is just code for giving the Dems what they want. Why don't these people do something useful such as saving souls from eternal damnation? Just a thought.

The implication is that the synod thinks the nomination process would not be conducted by measures that were fair, truthful and beyond reproach.
Looks like they're full of synot!

fair, truthful and beyond reproach.
I'm for that. I hope that President Bush follows the Consitution and nominates someone that he wants on the Court and that person is qualified to be there. Then all the Senate must do is vote a 51% margin to put that person on the Court.
Not only is that fair and truthful, observing the way the Consitution is supposed to work makes it "beyond reproach".

The process for confirming justices is already defined in the Constitution. It is amazing to watch "the other side" turn themselves and our country inside out after 208 years, simply to keep PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH from fulfilling his duties as all the Presidents before him were permitted to do without interference.

These guys are nuts. The Constitution provides all the process needed.
Besides, these people aren't even a real church ~ just a bunch of muddle headed Liberals who sit around thinking up sermons to preach to other people.

I'm a member of the Church of Christ, which is quite conservative. I cringe when I see a pronouncement from the "United Church of Christ", because they're about as far left as one can get.
And people get the two mixed up.
