I will leave it with enormous respect for the integrity of the Court and its role under our constitutional structure Except when international law says something else.

Imagine how insane the DUers would be if she got nominated and confirmed to SCOTUS? Two black conservatives (and one a woman) on the court would drive them nuts!

effective upon the nomination and confirmation of my successor Is that standard?
Personally, it would be alright with me to let the dems filibuster and keep her seat empty.

Too bad she didn't have that same respect for the Constitution!

President Bush arrives to make a statement about the retirement of Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O'Connor in the Rose Garden of the White House Friday, July 1, 2005 in Washington. O'Connor, the first woman on the Supreme Court and a swing vote on abortion as well as other contentious issues, announced her retirement Friday. A bruising Senate confirmation struggle loomed as President Bush selects a successor. (AP Photo/Charles Dharapak)

Her retirement village should be condemned, and siezed. She actually ruled in dissent on the eminent domain ruling. Better check your facts.

Her respect for the integrity of the Constitution and the Court was sorely missiing in many of her decisions.

Her retirement village should be condemned, and siezed. I don't like O'Connor as a jurist, but mostly because of her opinion in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, and similarly weak "logic."
But in the recent [New London] takings case, she wrote the dissent that noted the risks inherent in a broad interpretation of the phrase "public use."

Bush should consider nominating someboody the Dems already let through as a circuit court judge...
then it would be hard for them to claim extraordinary circumstances.

It has been a great priviledge indeed to have served as a member of the Court for 24 Terms. "Priviledge"? What's that, an outhouse on a rock outcropping? That's the FOXnews spelling, but I wonder if it's in the original?
