Hearing on Fox News
Incorrect. Not 1973, and Nixon was not impeached.
The House Judiciary Committee approved three articles of impeachment in July of 1974, but Nixon resigned in August of 1974 before the full House could vote on them.
IOW, hopefully Stevens decides to quit now that O'Connor has.
Because I saw right through his phony "compassionate" conservatism.
When he appoints another Souter, I'll be able to say "I told you so", won't I???
The Dems allowed her confirmation a few weeks ago, so they'll have a difficult time invoking "special circumstances" this time around.
Hopefully the Prez has the guts to do it.
And hence, your screen name!! LOL Call me Pollyanna too, because I truly believe the same thing! I thing he has been prepared for this for some time.
The DUmmies are beating you to it - insane that is...
Not me. Its like I'm in the belly of the beast. While in the nice red areas you may find 6 outta 10 folks like you, here in the belly its like 3 in 10. Still, I don't encourage giving into fear and fleeing.
Heard it in the car. Let's hope Bush nominates a real conservative and somehow he or she can get by the senate.
You want an originalist. So do I.
I can't reveal any of that information, since I have to protect someone's confidentiality in this case.
I'd think Edith Jones would have a better shot. She's been on the 5th Circuit for nearly two decades, so she's obviously got the pedigree. And she's at least as conservative as Brown.
Always fight the good fight!

Bravo~!!! Applause!!
I do too but those in the know say he is too old. They want someone in their fifties so the candidate can be on the court for 30 years.
I'm trying to remember the last time you were right about anything, Willie.
I'll have to get back to you.
Such a bad rap. Bork was told by the AG (Elliot Richardson)and Deputy AG (William Ruckleshouse) to assume acting AG, not because of ambition, but because Bork was the final political appointee in the Justice Department's chain of succession. Had Bork joined the AG and Dep. AG, the next in line would have been a civil servant, and likely would have created what Richardson and Ruckleshouse dubbed a "constitutional crisis." Source: private conversation with Richardson and Ruckleshouse.
The sad thing is that even though O'Connor quitting gives us a reliable conservative vote, we still are one vote away from a true majority.
Instead, we have Kennedy in there mucking things up, and for all intents and purposes, he will be a liberal when it counts.
We would still lose all the vital decisions.
Well said Hobbes.
