Hearing on Fox News
I agree Ted for CJ and Garza to replace O'connor. There is no way that Renquist can handle one more term,he has done enough and sacrificed enough for America.
The text of Sandra Day O'Connor's retirement letter to President Bush.
Dear President Bush:
This is to inform you of my decision to retire from my position as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States effective upon the nomination and confirmation of my successor. It has been a great privilege, indeed, to have served as a member of the court for 24 terms. I will leave it with enormous respect for the integrity of the court and its role under our constitutional structure.
Sincerely,
Sandra Day O'Connor
Actually your thoughts about McCain is brilliant. He definitely needs to repair some bridges. The media won't turn on McCain unless he becomes president or goes up against Hillary.
Ping-
I'm about there, too.
BUMP!!
No, there's no limit on what day a justice can resign.
Sup Ct justices can do damage for a LIFETIME!
That short list was for Renquist retirement from everything I have heard. This puts a new wrinkle with O'Connor stepping down first -- I would think they would replace her with another woman and Janice Brown comes right to my mind as perfect -- already approved by the Senate.
Kind of hard to knock something down when he is on tape talking to La Raza, and on public record as being a member.
frist on the senate floor now heaping praise on sandy, (BARF)
And where are those social conservatives going to go?
Social conservatives always seem to have their bags packed at the ready, threatening to split if they don't get their way.
Far as I am concerned, walk now and avoid the prolonged goodbyes. If social conservatives want to destroy our best hope of turning this country around by demanding that all things go their way, it is lost anyway.
I am mad already and the nom hasn't been made.
i totally agree on Luttig.
"Rats: "Here's our chance to get a strong leftie since we are still - in power - as far as the Senate is concerned..."
RINOS- Here is yet another chance to roll over and have our bellies scratched.
I"m sure a Supreme can resign anytime (s)he damn well pleases.

President Bush planned to make a statement at 11:15 a.m. Eastern time in the White House Rose Garden on her resignation.
