Bush Shrugs Off Slump in Polls; Jokes about Second-Term "Quagmire"
AP ^ | June 24, 2005

Posted on 06/24/2005 11:52:17 AM PDT by West Coast Conservative

WHITE HOUSE President Bush is shrugging off the polls showing his job approval rating at low ebb. At a news conference with Iraq's visiting prime minister, Bush jokingly suggested the word "quagmire" to a reporter asking about a possible "second-term slump."

The president says he knows U-S troops have a difficult mission in Iraq against a bloodthirsty and determined enemy.

And he says on domestic issues, he's asking Congress to "take on some big tasks." He says he's not surprised his idea for a Social Security overhaul has met stiff resistance from lawmakers.

Bush added: "This is a time of testing. It's a critical time."

Puppet is a pretty strong word.

Remember, corporations employ people, so, too do small business, it's not unheard of for Presidents to advocate policies that are good for U.S. Corporations. (within reason) And, to a certain extent his job. We live in a free market society, not a communist state.

Seems to me, we, the USA haven't been very compliant with the WTO. Those jokers are always threatening us with tariffs and restrictions over the extra territorial income exclusion the IRS allows for business that export goods overseas.

From what I have seen of Bush, I just can't see him supporting this ruling. He should make a comment, rather than us having to guess his thoughts.

Already mention made of it in the thread.

Personally I'm sick of people that moan about Bush not doing enough to re-inforce the WOT and troops, he finally does so, and then THEY talk about anything BUT his remarks, the troops, the WOT, or use the opportunity to tear Bush down rather than re-inforce the message.

Just WHO is guilty of dropping the ball on the troops now? Is it Bush that just gave a strong press conference, sent his people out there to combat the Libs (including Rove) and planning a speech next Tuesday? Or is it the pesky ankle biters that choose to discuss other topics or critisize the President.

they need to grow up, realize on this issue, this moment, they need to get behind the President if for no other reason than to spare our troops vietnam victimization and shove everything else out of the way. At LEAST in threads pertaining to this issue. If there are complaints about illegal immigration, take it to those threads. If they want comments on the land grab, go to the dozens of threads on it.

I can't recall a President that "didn't" sign a bad piece of legislation...the ability to attach "riders" to a bill has always been a sore subject.

I can't remember if legislation granting the POTUS line item veto power ever passed.

Still, the issues are exlusive of each other. And one is legislation the other is a judicial ruling. Just because the POTUS signed that CFR POS, does't mean he's for the SCOTUS (doesn't mean he's against it, either.)

We just need to hear a statement from W on this. It's that important.

There are 1,000,000 illegal Mexicans in my state. You do the math. Why bother voting?
------
This is exactly why we must both get rid of illegals and stop their voting --- they are voting TO FORCE THEIR AGENDA ON THE U.S. -- to vote in a way (most likely liberal) to influence their illegal status-quo and highway robbery of the U.S. taxpayer.

With the non-existent action on illegal immigrants, gas prices and the five women Marines being blown up today among many others every day, I wouldn't laugh too loudly, W. If things don't improve by next spring, you surely won't be laughing the morning after the '06 election. You will be the lamest of ducks....

"No s***! It a time to see if YOU will protect this country and re-establish its borders and immigration laws!!! Or will you fail your Presidential oath? "

I vote "B". He has no intentions or interest in protecting this country's borders.

Yes he could do better on Illegal Immigration as for gas prices what do what him to do?? Nationalize the gas industry? Price controls? As for the marines being blowned up, it was sad, however, we are AT WAR in which we did not start!

When the illegals started receiving the franchise (an estimated 100,000 voted in the last election according to a Duke study this year), then OUR votes became irrelevant. If illegal votes are considered legal, then the system is irretrievably broken. One can't vote legitimacy into a system that has become illegitimate, can one?

And you evidently have no interest in preventing the Liberals from turning this war into Vietnam which would have a devastating effect far more dire than open borders on our troops and our country. If you DID, you'd be focused on the subject of the thread and the subject of the conference and supporting the comments instead of usurping the thread for your own personal venting forum on an unrelated issue that already has thousands of threads.

Of course not. But there is more to this than meet the open eye. Many are growing very skeptical, very fast about Washington's purpose and agenda. Have the people lost control of their government? I think so -- quite a while back.

Since I consider him to be a puppet of the multinational corporatists, my suspicion is that he'll appoint a "moderate" who would've agreed with this decision.

My "suspicion" is that there's nobody walking the face of the earth that would satisfy you.

My comments in 31? that goes for the rest of the illegal immigration thread highjackers.

I'll leave you to a thread NOT your own that could and should be used to support the WOT policy so that you can have yet another thread on immigration that does nothing to support our military in the field. A shame our troops don't rank a thread of support without it devolving to something else.

I commend the President for actually giving a damn about them. I certainly can't say based on the behavior by some in this thread that is the case.

Absolutely NOT true.

Findings
Impact of Illegal Aliens.
Table 1 shows which states gain and which states lose when illegal aliens are taken out of the 2000 Census counts. The table shows that four states each had one fewer seat because of the presence of illegal immigrants. Indiana, Michigan, and Mississippi each lost one seat in the House, and Montana failed to gain a seat it otherwise would have gained because of the inclusion of illegal aliens in the 2000 Census. California picked up three seats because of illegal aliens and, surprisingly, North Carolina also gained an extra seat. Although the INS estimates that North Carolina is home to only 3 percent of the nation’s total illegal population, the state was right on the threshold of gaining an additional seat; the presence of nearly 200,000 illegal aliens allowed it to be awarded an additional seat.

Center for Immigration Studies

The situation is bad enough without false information being posted.

People haven't had control of the Federal government since the Eighteenth Century, if then. It's worse now, as the Golden Rule applies only: "He who has the gold, makes the rules." It's always been so, for millenia. To believe otherwise is to live in Bushbot Wonderland.
