Odd, my gut tells me that scenario is wrong unless Sloot was freelancing, making his own deal with somebody. Acting like a gangster to make some money.

Human Traffickers would not pick an American teenager on vacation in Aruba, they just are too smart for that. They pick runaways, street kids, poor kids. Criminal cartels like this don't involve people who will make a fuss.

Sloot may have done a dumb thing. But I still think he started something with her and it went wrong, either others got her or whatever. I am piecing it together.

Seems to me the entire criminal big time stuff is background, the context in which this occurred. Sort of like a mugger mugging someone in a Mafia neighborhood and suddenly all hell breaks loose from the Mafia and from LE who are "bought off" or just trying to do their job.

I talked to my wife last night about her trip to Aruba in 1992. She said she had the same feeling you did. She's blond and blue eyed. She said that everyone kept coming up to her and trying to speak Dutch to her. She also said that everyone was always staring at her group. She described it as feeling that there was some big secret that all the locals were in on. She said "I know it's foolish but I really felt a huge sense of relief when I saw the cruise ships docking one day." We were dating at the time and I remember now that she told me she would never go back.

At the end of the day the island of Aruba will WISH their problem was a 17 yr old murder victim. What with drug cartel, decapitations, mafia stories swirling around in Nat'l news, Gov't officials will long for the good old days of missing persons stories.

Have you considered Bande Ache as an alternative vacation spot this year.....safer tha Aruba,

Yes, we are on the same wave length. Besides, everyone knows that where there are Casino's there is organized crime. They have bigger fish than Natalee to catch..

The more we detour toward thinking that Natalee has been abducted and sent off the island, the less we stay focused on the three young men who were the last to see her.

I still feel they are responsible for her disappearance, that she is dead and we will never find her remains.

The American gov't could go to extremes and issue a Tourist traval advisory warning against going to Aruba, until they get to the bottom of this.

They should allow our FBI to give these men a polygraph EVEN if it isn't admissible in their court. At least we'd know if they were telling the truth or not..

Are we getting to the expose on how the S.American drug cartel can no longer easily launder drug money because of the emphasis on anti-terrorism - that they are bartering drugs for sex slaves?

How many S.American and Central American govts are involved in this?

Corruption is world wide - and this is the only world we have. Where is the UN? Oh, sorry I forgot.

Another interesting thing. We have gone diving to Bonaire for many years. It is one of the ABC islands. It is, or was, sleepy, backwater, primarily a dive destination and we have been there twice a year since about 1988.

About nine or so years ago, I could be wrong on the dates, gambling came in and some big hotels and luxury condos were built near the airport. Docked at those places were incredible yachts, like you see in the Cayments. Rich people.

We were friends with natives. And they were mum, wouldn't say a word, but conveyed that they didn't like it. They looked sort of scared when the subject came up. One who had known us for years said something about drugs and how they ruined an island. He was disturbed but frigtened to say more and this guy was not a sissy. He was from a native family, highly respected, his dad was a famed diver who had started the diving industry there.

Since that time, crime has increased, gambling has increased, old respected dive hotels are going downhill. It just isn't the same.

Makes you wonder.

Somebody on another site mentioned that Venezuela has been trying to get this Posada guy wanted for blowing up an airliner in the seventies extradited from the Us and we are holding him as a terrorist. They speculated Nat might be a bargaining chip. I doubt it somehow.

but interesting. If I am kidnapped I pray it is Mafia because when my family makes a fuss,they will get me back.

That "report" came from Aruba radio Top95. If I understand correctly, possible scenarios were discussed. IMO, the radio "news" that held any weight was the witness who saw a struggle on the beach that night. The identity of the witness is known by the radio station, but not released.
