Im tired of this MSM talk of McCain, Frist, Guiliani, Romney, and Pataki for the 2008 nomination. Out of those, onyl Frist has a chance at winning the primaries. So let's take a look at some real candidates.

Sen. Allen - the front-runner Sen. Brownback - Probably running for VP Sen. Thune - His name has been thrown around as a serious "sleeper" candidate in 2008 Gov. Pawlenty - Popular Conservative Gov. could give the GOP the great lakes states Gov. Sanford Gov. Bush (won't run) Gov. Owens (if marraige is fixed) Newt Gingrich

Rick Santorum is a peice of ****. He tried to introduce a bill to restrict some internet access on weather satellite imagery.

Allen is a nobody. Pence is certainly a nobody. Tancredo is a one issue candidate. Cheney will not run.

Conservatives are becoming a lonely minority in the GOP nominating process. I think McCain will be a serious candidate despite his age, but of course Giuliani could cut into McCain's base. While most of us here loathe McCain, he does have popular support.

If Sanford doesn't run and Pence does, I'll have to consider him, along with Pawlenty and Allen.

Frist I'll only vote for if he's the GOP nominee. And forget McCain under any circumstance.

Allen is an interesting case because he's probably a governor by nature, but ran for a seat in the U.S. Senate because Virginia has a very strict term-limits law that prohibits anyone from serving more than one consecutive term.

Nothing you said about a senator applies any less to a senator who also happened to be VP.

I hope that Tom McClintock runs for Governor of California since Ahnold is ticking off the radical pro-illegal crowd. He should have been our Governor after recalling Gumby (Gray Davis).

I'm telling you man that's a silly way to choose a presidential candidate. I hope you and others don't vote based on your theory in the primaries. We may end up nominating the 2nd best candidate based on an unprovable superstition.

Yes, they were all senators.

I'll do some more research, but I can tell you right now that George Bush #41 never served in the U.S. Senate. He ran unsuccessfully for the Senate in 1964 and in 1970, and later served as UN Ambassador and CIA director before he was picked as Reagan's running mate in 1980. His father served as a U.S. Senator back in the 1940s or 1950s.

Half the names on this list I barley recognize let alone the general public.

Truman served in the senate but the others did not. Ford and Bush 41 were both Representatives in the House at one time though.
