"That promised yes votes for cloture"
Yeah but he only promised yes for cloture. The deal said nothing about up-and-down votes.
To: Miss Marple
I guess Byrd remembered Janice Brown is black, so he changed his vote.

Lindsey Graham just voted aye -- too much heat at home if he voted no.He was never poised to vote "no" on Brown.
To: southernnorthcarolina
OK, so it was Burr from my state who voted AYE; Byrd (Sheets) of WV voted NO. So still only one defection from party line voting: Nelson (D-Nebraska) voting AYE.

Byrd knows that she will pass, so he voted "aye" to show that they don't always vote against Bushs' nominees. When he saw that she would pass without his vote, I think he changed to "no" so he could vote against her when she's nominated for the SCOTUS.
To: Miss Marple
Sounds like Byrd changed his vote to "No."
Wasn't that Burr, NC that voted aye.... not Byrd

Sounds like Byrd changed his vote to "No." No he didn't. It was probably sen. Burr who voted AYE and we just heard it wrong..
To: badgerbengal
I think it was BURR (R) who voted AYE before, and BYRD (D-KKK) who voted NO. I don't believe BYRD changed his vote, unless I heard wrong.
