Federal officials believe they have broken up an al Qaeda terror cell operating in Lodi and have arrested two men and detained two others as part of a wide-ranging investigation, authorities said Tuesday. One of the men arrested, 22-year-old Hamid Hayat, is accused in a federal criminal complaint of training in an al Qaeda camp in Pakistan to learn “how to kill Americans” and then lying to FBI agents about it. His training included explosives and weapons instruction and using photographs of President Bush as targets, court documents indicate.

How big is Lodi, population-wise? Do you have a university/college there?

Lodi is around 60,000 in population. We do not have a university in town. We are a bedroom community for Stockton.

Lodi is the farthest North town in San Joaquin county, just south of the Sacramento county line.

It is a town populated in the beginning by Germans who migrated here from North Dakota. However in the last few years there has been a noticeable increase in Mexican and Islamic citizens. I find it hard to believe given the limits of legal immigration in this country, that so many legal immigrants would get off the boat (scurry across the border) and head for Lodi. The problem is massive in California and this is just a symptom.

Wow!

78 posts, at the time I begin my little diatribe, and no one has commented on the outrage that the training camp for these evil dudes is in PAKISTAN.

Pakistan? Yeah, you know ... our new best friend and ally.

The wild-ass, Islamic, country home of bin Laden!

The only Islamic nation with nukes.

But who do we have in our sights? Iran and Syria!

Am I nuts or is the little Napoleon in D.C.?

Not so! Madera and Fresno counties are coming on strong.

Just south of Fresno is the best for raisins.

I Googled the name of that Sacramento CAIR guy in the article, and one of the things that came up was that a Sacramento CAIR event was listed in the "upcoming events" part of the local "Chicano/Aztlan" website.
I said it yesterday on another thread, and I'll say it again because FReepers BETTER PAY ATTENTION to history: I believe there are extremist Mexican/Aztlan types and extremist Islam types who are trying to set up another "Zimmerman Telegram" (from WWI) infrastructure or situation.

I'm actually in Sacramento, but I live right on the borderline between Elk Grove and Sacramento. I live in the Elk Grove-Florin Calvine area.

I'll bet you know where that is!

Oh yeah, I know where that is. I've been in Sacto. for almost 30 years. I sure don't like the way this area has exploded in population! This area of town was practically empty when we moved down here like 17 years ago!

Now it's a MESS!! They're turning it into LA!

"..........just like the WWII Germans............."

I agree. Unfortunately for the American people, and as opposed to the case of the beloved FDR, who could bring those terrorists to justice and have them executed quickly, the hated-by-the-Antiamerican-MSM Bush will have to provide them with air-conditioned cells, Left-wing lawyers and Korans. Who knows, they may get off and sue the US for wrongful arrest.

PLEASE! Hang the unappreciative, infiltrating, scum forthwith.

Does learning how "to kill Americans" require a different skill set then learning how to kill Brits, Italians, or any other nationality?

>>They probably weren't targeting Lodi, but they undoubtably saw it as a good place to launch attacks from.

Could be. I was listening to my AM radio show and a guy who claimed to know one of the suspects (not the two arrested, one of the others who is being detained for immigration reasons), said he noticed them staring at the aqueducts outside of town. According to this guy, the only reason people would be out there is to go fishing. And they didn't have any fishing poles.

Satellite Photos of Terror Camps in Pakistan

Federal complaint says 22-year-old trained in Pakistan on 'how to kill Americans'

Federal agents have broken up what they say was an al Qaeda terrorist cell operating in the San Joaquin County city of Lodi, arresting two men, one of whom admitted attending training camps in Pakistan to learn "how to kill Americans," according to published reports.

A joint terrorism task force, including agents from the FBI, arrested Hamid Hayat, 22, and his father on Sunday, less than a week after the younger man was found aboard a San Francisco-bound plane even though his name appeared on a no-fly list of suspected extremists, the Los Angeles Times reported in today's editions.

Hayat was trained to use explosives and weapons and practiced by using photographs of President Bush and other high-profile U.S. political figures as targets, the Times reported, citing court documents.

The suspect, who allegedly initially lied to FBI agents about whether he had received training, had his pick of where to carry out a terrorist attack, which potentially could have targeted hospitals and large food stores, the Times said, citing court documents.

The task force arrested Hayat's father, Umer Hayat, 47, a Lodi ice cream truck driver, on charges that he lied about his son's involvement and his own financing of the terror camp, the Times said. Umer Hayat reportedly paid $100 each month to his son.

Not smart to travel to Paki-al-Qaeda land and lie to federal agents about your trip. 'Nuff said.
