SAN NICOLAS, Aruba - Authorities detained two men Sunday in connection with the disappearance of an Alabama teenager, who went missing nearly a week ago in Aruba while on a high school trip, the attorney general said. ADVERTISEMENT
Caren Janssen called the men "suspects" in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, 18, but declined to provide further details. The men were not among the three described earlier by police as "persons of interest."
Police officers and three FBI agents, who are playing a supportive role in the investigation, took the two men into custody at two different houses in the southeastern town of San Nicolas, according to an AP photographer at the scene.
Police knocked on the door of one house, put the suspect on the floor and handcuffed him. Officers later detained a second man. They both were led to an unmarked police car and taken away.
Neighbors described the men as security guards who worked at a hotel closed down for renovation near where the 18-year-old blonde was staying at the Holiday Inn. Police and FBI agents searched the hotel Saturday.
And why didn't her classmates and/or chaperones keep a close eye on her? She must have been drinking and her inhibitions were lowered to allow herself to go with three strangers.
People have lapses in judgment. It's really tragic.
Haiti is a third world country by the very definition of third world. Aruba is not. I know what that freeper means and it's no use debating. Some people just love to be ignorant.

It has been my experience that Dutch owned or Dutch influenced territories in the Carribean are clean, neat and beautiful.
Now the French owned/influenced are entirely different. Once visited the island of Guadaloupe...lots of potential -- beautiful pink sand beaches, but the place was a dump. The guide tried to excuse the island's condition by saying that Hurricane Hugo had caused it such extensive damage. But, at the time I was there, Hurricane Hugo had happened eight years earlier. You would think if it was the hurricane, the island would have been fixed up in eight years.
Same with St. Martins -- it's the French half of an island shared with the Dutch St. Maartens. St. Maartens, like Aruba and Curacao, is clean, neat, tidy and beautiful. St. Martins, the French side, is another dump.
I get the feeling that the Netherlands invests a lot in caring for their islands...France does not.
When I was in Paris, the first thing that popped into my mind was that it was exceedingly dirty. More than I expected.

Doubtless if they had sex with Natalee Hollaway, she approached them and demanded it. Not. Why is this always the excuse? The victim wanted it. It's her fault.

Have you ever even been to Aruba? Doesn't sound like you've traveled much and are showing your ignorance about a vacation spot that is considered to be very enjoyable.

I've never been to Paris, but what you're saying is consistent with what I've heard from others who have been there. And not only that -- the people are not too nice to Americans, so I've heard.
If Natalee were pretty, black, or Hispanic, you'd be hearing about it, especially if her family was middle class.
I tried to speak french and so I don't know if that's why they were nice BUT someone did say they talk about in french while smiling to your face. So who knows? The women are very put together and the men look a little bit sloppy like that actor Gerard Depardieu.
I suspect they doped her drink.
