I've never traveled a lot, does that make me ignorant too?

If I want to learn about a part of the world, can't I just do research about the customs, culture and geography of that place?

Yes but that person is assuming a lot about a place just based on where it is and the type of people that are there.

If you show complete cluelessness about a place that many people have been to, and then refuse to concede the point, then yes. But if you listen to what people have to say, then no.
