The Statler Brothers - More Than A Name On The Wall
I saw her from a distance, as she walked up to the wall
In her hand she held some flowers, as her tears began to fall
She took out pen and paper as to trace her mem'ries
She looked up to heaven, and the words she said were these.
She said, ''Lord my boy was special, and he meant so much to me
And Oh, I'd love to see him just one more time you see
All I have are the mem'ries and the moments to recall
So Lord could you tell him he's more than a name on the wall.''
She said, ''He really missed the family, being home on Christmas day
And he died for God and country in a place so far away
I remember just a little boy, playing war since he was three
And Lord this time I know, he's not coming home to me.''
She said, ''Lord my boy was special, and he meant so much to me
And Oh, I'd love to see him but I know it just can't be
So I thank you for my mem'ries and the moments to recall
But Lord could you tell him he's more than a name on the wall.''
''Lord could you tell him he's more than a name on the wall..."

Merle Haggard - Fightin' Side Of Me
I hear people talkin' bad,
About the way we have to live here in this country,
Harpin' on the wars we fight,
An' gripin' 'bout the way things oughta be.
An' I don't mind 'em switchin' sides,
An' standin' up for things they believe in.
When they're runnin' down my country, man,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it:
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'.
If you're runnin' down my country, man,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
I read about some squirrely guy,
Who claims, he just don't believe in fightin'.
An' I wonder just how long,
The rest of us can count on bein' free.
They love our milk an' honey,
But they preach about some other way of livin'.
When they're runnin' down my country, hoss,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Nick Popaditch
'Cigar Marine' Returns Home Less One Eye, But With Spirit Intact
By U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Jennie Haskamp Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center
TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif., May 17, 2004 As Marine Gunnery Sgt. Nick Popaditch sat and watched his 10-year-old son play third base on May 8 at Luckie Park in Twentynine Palms, Calif., he couldn't hide his enthusiasm.
We are praying that Nick's eye sight will be restored. Maybe Stem Cell research will come through for him many, many, many others that could use some medical help.
Thanks for sharing with us.
Onlky two words because it has all been said here already and I can't add more except......
Thank You!
He's doing very well thanks. Just trying to take care of last minute things with his car before he has to drive the 400+ miles to his job in lower Mich.
Snow? What's that? Yes, it's been gone for quite awhile, but the weather's been slow to warm up for more than a day at a time. On the plus side, maybe it will cause us to completely miss the mosquito season this year. (Haha)
Yes, I have been doing lots of gardening. It's the busiest time of year for those of us with perennial and annual beds to tend and seedlings galore to squeeze into the blank places. It's a fun kind of madness though. :-)
Crowds gathered each week to hear the soul-stirring sermons of Joseph Parker, the famous pastor of London's City Temple in the late 19th century. Then a crisis hit him hard. His wife died after an agonizing illness. Parker later said he would not have allowed a dog to suffer as she did. A heartbroken husband whose prayers had gone unanswered, he confessed publicly that for a week he had even denied that God existed. But Parker's loss of faith was only temporary. From that experience he gained a stronger personal trust in Jesus' death-destroying resurrection and began to testify: "I have touched the bottom, and it is sound." Listen to this exclamation of triumph from the risen Christ as He proclaims His victory over the grave: "Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last. I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore" (Revelation 1:17-18). Death is our most venomous enemy, robbing us of joy and hope-unless the triumph of Christ's resurrection reverberates in our heart. As we believe in the mighty Victor over death, doubt is banished and light drives away the darkness. Hold fast to that triumphant trust as you struggle through life's worst crises. -Vernon Grounds
Some through the fire, but all through the blood; Some through great sorrow, but God gives a song In the night season and all the day long. -Young Because of Christ's empty tomb, we can be full of hope.

Temple Owl, I will be sure to say a prayer before lighting the grill
I am getting ready to go see the US Air Force Thunderbirds
Have a good day
Sounds like good advice to me. Sometimes it is good to take a break from discussing politics, I know it is for me.
Thanks for the invite. My husband died six months and one week ago today. He was a vet also, always took great pride in that too. We always pray for the guys and girls fighting for our country and will till they're all home. This is still kinda a tough subject for me but thank you for the thread. It's heartbreaking.
Great post, thanks for posting it.
