It was just a throw-away line on a throw-away filler piece. Yet in its own way it was deeply revealing of the liberal mindset.
At the end of its top-of-the-hour news recap, Today ran a piece about a Florida family that had found a small alligator lounging in its backyard swimming pool. Today aired footage of authorities roping and removing the reptile.
Katie then murmured "gee, I hope it will be released and be OK," with Matt Lauer ominously informing Katie that things sometimes don't work out too well for the alligator in such situations.
So there it was. Katie's crocodile tears for . . . a crocodile. OK, an alligator, but who's counting?
Yet another example of the liberal mindset at work. From snail darters to spotted owls to baby seals to alligators, liberal hearts bleed at the thought of any harm being done to animals.
But 40 million and counting babies aborted since Roe v. Wade? Hey, when's the next march where we can "celebrate a woman's right to choose"? Starving and dehydrating Terri Schiavo to death? Hey, her life wasn't meaningful anyhow.
I'm with you -- I like those heart-warming stories about an animal being saved (though I've never quite warmed up to crocodiles!). But is Katie unmoved by the "former embryos" (they wore signs -- as might we all) appearing with Bush yesterday?
Right. Preserving the chicken egg inconveniences you and me; preserving the human egg inconveniences HER.
I am not "they," I am me. I say what's on my mind, and don't tow any particular line.
If you think that all I do is "spew abortion and Schiavo," then you have not been reading the regular Today Show threads I post. They deal, from my own perspective, with everything under the sun.
I think you're right. I know someone who has had an abortion, but was appalled at a state-approved dove hunt.
Then why do you WATCH it? I don't get it ... if you hate Katie, turn her off.
What could be simpler than that?
There are waaaaay too many alligators in Florida now, after all those years of protected status. They are, literally, everywhere, and are becoming a menace in many areas, a threat to pets and small children. They are spreading northward in greater numbers, too. They need to be exterminated in such cases - they're alligators for goodness sakes, one of the oldest and lowest forms of life on Earth.
No one doubts that Couric is entitled to her personal views. I have simply been trying to point out the inconsistency and what I would consider the moral obtuseness of being more concerned about the life of a baby alligator than the life of an unborn child.
Has Katie ever come out on the show and paraded her pro-choice views? Not to my knowledge. But that she is an avid supporter of pro-choice politicians and a dedicated opponent of pro-life politicians is beyond question. I think it's fair, I think it's virtually inescapable, to conclude that she is pro-choice.
That being so, I think it's also fair to point out the incongruities of her positions.
So if a higher form of life suddenly appeared on Earth, you feel they would have the right to suddenly start gunning down your family and friends because they are the 'higher' species and we are a threat to them?
Me neither. Life, in all its forms, is a gift from God and should be respected. And I do eat meat. I just also appreciate the fact that a creature has given its life for mine.
Vegans and vegetarians apparently think that plant life isn't as important as animal life, but the reality is that no carnivores could exist without plant life.
As I said, everything has a role in this great mystery called "creation," and it should be respected.
Whew, I'm getting very existential and I haven't even had a cup of coffee yet, LOL!

Great idea. On the same theory - don't watch what you hate - I expect you'll be writing to the CIA this morning to suggest they stop watching Al-Qaeda too.
No, I'm not suggesting Katie is a terrorist. But I do think it's worthwhile keeping track of what an influential show with a declining but still the largest audience is up to.
Entire organizations, such as Brent Bozell's Media Research Center, devote themselves to tracking liberal media bias. Should they disband too? Should Bernard Goldberg not have written "Bias"? You get the point.
If they affect her coverage of the stories and she bends them to her viewpoint, then yes.
But you have not given any proof that this is the case.
I don't like Al Franken or his viewpoint and therefore, don't listen to Air America. I used to like him on Saturday Night Live and will watch those, because he is not pushing his liberal rants on me.
What soes Katie's viewpoints on abortion have to do with Matt's story about a baby alligator?
GLGB, I have enjoyed your posts now for over a year, and in no did I mean to lump you into this category. You have my profound respect and I miss your tag line. My point is that liberals like Katie Couric seem to care more about animals than they do about people. And yours is a hypothetical argument - we're dealing in reality here. These are alligators, not children.

I think I've made a convincing case as to Couric being pro-choice. If you don't, that's your perogative. But assuming she is pro-choice, I think it is entirely fair and revelatory to point out the moral inconsistency of her positions.
