Today: Katie's Krokodile Tears [More Concern for Baby Alligator than Human Life]
The Today Show | governsleast governsbest

Posted on 05/26/2005 4:24:33 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

It was just a throw-away line on a throw-away filler piece. Yet in its own way it was deeply revealing of the liberal mindset.

At the end of its top-of-the-hour news recap, Today ran a piece about a Florida family that had found a small alligator lounging in its backyard swimming pool. Today aired footage of authorities roping and removing the reptile.

Katie then murmured "gee, I hope it will be released and be OK," with Matt Lauer ominously informing Katie that things sometimes don't work out too well for the alligator in such situations.

So there it was. Katie's crocodile tears for . . . a crocodile. OK, an alligator, but who's counting?

Yet another example of the liberal mindset at work. From snail darters to spotted owls to baby seals to alligators, liberal hearts bleed at the thought of any harm being done to animals.

But 40 million and counting babies aborted since Roe v. Wade? Hey, when's the next march where we can "celebrate a woman's right to choose"? Starving and dehydrating Terri Schiavo to death? Hey, her life wasn't meaningful anyhow.

We expect nothing better from the Today Show.

Not that Good Morning America is any better.

I would bet that most PETA members are "pro-choice." (I could be wrong, but I am making an educated guess.) And if you challenged them on it, they'd never even see the connection.

Eating meat is selfish and cruel, in their eyes. I wonder if they see having an abortion (as a moral choice, whether it's legal or not) the same way?

Me too. I've had a running argument with a college student I know who is a "vegan" and also pro-choice. I've pointed out to her that she considers herself too morally refined to harm a chicken egg, but has no qualms about destroying a well-developed human egg.

Yeah, but that segment was about a baby alligator, not a fetus.  Was he supposed to suddenly bring up abortion in the middle of the story?  I've seen tons of stories, publications and protests over abortion.

To ask whether her Terrt's life was meaningful, as if no one covered it is ridiculous.  There were PLENTY of tears and media coverage about Terri, in fact the story was completely beaten into the ground with 24 hour a day coverage.  This website, and the entire media covered every possible angle of the story.

Can't there even be a story about a baby alligator without a reference to Schiavo or abortion?

And did you notice Katie's Laura Ashley skirt? no more sexy shoes? I couldn't believe it...today Katie showed no leg! She had on little girl ballerina slippers!

You think this will help woo back Katie fans who didn't like her nekkid leg look? this is definitely more in line with Diane Sawyer's casual sweater look, and I bet a conscious decision.

Sigh. I'm still waiting to hear that anyone on that program has finally uttered the word embryonic.

Did she mention anything about embryonic stem cell research in the same show? Your title made me think she might have.

I have no problem with people being concerned for animal life. To the contrary, the Bible tells us to replace a bird that has fallen, even if it has fallen many times, and in other ways cautions us to treat animals humanely.

But it's the moral inconsistency that bothers me. I don't expect Today to bring up Schiavo or abortion in segments like this morning's, but it bothers me to think that Katie seemingly cares more about animal life than innocent human life.

There's nothing "good" about the Good Morning show when an ex-cheerleader, being paid $$14 MILLION dollars, is more concerned about an alligator...a BABY one at that...than her rabid support for killing 40 million human babies. She's a real "PRO" for alligators living and humans dying but too dense...dumb...to realize the disconnect.

Why do you say this?  Did the Today show NOT cover the Terri story in the way you found to your liking?  From the small amount of time I saw the show they seemed to cover the story completely.

Katie is a committed liberal, as has been demonstrated in the course of the hundred or more reports I've posted at FR documenting the liberal bias that creeps, or leaps, into Today.

I think it's fair to say conclude that Katie is pro-choice and also supported the husband's side in the Schiavo matter.

That being said, I also think it's fair to point out the moral inconsistency of her position: her ostentatious display of concern for animal life and her indifference to innocent human life.

It's obvious that she has never tasted a nice piece of fried baby 'gator. With french fries and Louisiana hot sauce.

So how did she display her emotions during the Schiavo stories?  Did she refuse to cover it?  Did she say things like "Let the veggie die"?  Didi she giggle uncontrollably?

Believe me, I am NOT defending that jerk, I am merely stating that saying a story about a baby alligator being taken out of a pond recieved more heart-felt coverage than abortion or Schiavo is totally untrue.

You are focusing on the coverage, I am focusing on what I justifiably believe to be Katie's personal views.
