Filibuster deal: Freepers, please "hold your powder"
n/a | 05/24/05 | jdsteel

Posted on 05/24/2005 5:44:11 AM PDT by jdsteel

Before we explode in disgust about the RINO defectors, please consider this: IF the nominated judges get an up or down vote, we win. If a nominated judge gets blocked by filibuster again, we can still "pull the trigger" on the constitutional option...this time with "betrayed and outraged moderates" leading the way. As much as I want to just respond to this emotionally, I am trying to show patience to see how this pans out over the next month. I also am looking forward to seeing how the DUmmies seeth as judges are nominated. So, please, "hold your powder" but keep your eye on the target.

Ain't gonna happen. They would have to admit they were fools to agree to the deal in the first place.

Laz, you're simply wrong on this one. I understand your emotions. I feel them too, but we'll actually get ALL our judges, with the possible exception of Saad. I happen to think that Saad will also get his vote, but won't be confirmed by the full Senate.

That said, the RNC may get $$$$ from me, but not for the Senate.

I'm was so disgusted over this when I heard about it I actually went out and took the Bush sticker off my car. I was pretty disgusted over the border issue but this one takes the cake. I'm not contrbuting this year, not my money or my time.

So what happens to the two judges that they will not vote on.

Seems to me there ought to be a discrimination lawsuit.

It's too early to throw in the towel, but many already have.

The only this makes sense is if the pubbies want to preserve the fillibuster for their own use at some future time when they are in the minority.

Are you delusional? In the future the 'Rats would not hesitate one milisecond to drop the nuclear option, the neutron option, the star wars option and every other dirty trick let's-change-the-rules again option they can manufacture!

If this is true, there is a small chance of getting back a few of us who have bolted the party.

However, be aware: There are many Republicans who don't follow it as closely as us. They will have seen this travesty last night, and decided to drop out and tune out of the party.

They won't be coming back.

This is a true turning point. Expect Democrat wins in 2006 and 2008, and probably for a long time after that.

Altho I am dissapointed I am hoping that when the SCOTUS position opens up GW nominates Owens,Brown, or Pryor. Which the Senate now deems acceptable.Let them try to fillibuster now that they have been cleared for lower court appointments.

WOW! I'm not taking YOU on as a political consultant. This is the most topsy-turvy, ssa-sdrawkcab, analysis I have ever seen.

Dear Freepers,

I must say it did me a world of good to vent my anger last night! [smile]. Boy I was mad... and I'm STILL mad but at least my brain functions again.

I do agree, that a war has many battles, and this was just one of them. The important thing is to settle down and get organized, and direct the anger to the right place. But just for fun, what are we going to call these 7?

The 7 TRAITORS,
The 7 FROM HELL?,
The 7 SATANS? - LOL.

I have a feeling McCain is going to torpedo us in '08 too. He's not going to get the nomination of the party, so he'll run like Perot did, suck away votes, and the dem will win. Just a feeling.....

"Getting the up or down vote is the target in this issue. We get that, and still have the constitutional option in our holster, I'm satisfied."

But will we have the votes? Right now the holster has a gun in it, will it be there in the future?

"Unless the President puts up some squishy moderate, it will be the "Extraordinary Circumstance" that will trigger the next Filibuster.

And the Republican Moderates will cave again. Once on kisses the boot once, it is easier to do it again. And again."

I absolutely agree. We suddenly have rule by the Moderates (those without conviction). Therefore, there is no political motivation to keep these losers from caving over and over as they feel "emboldened". I have given my last dollar to the RNC. One penny of it just might go to one of these seven SOB's.

What we need is a true conservative nominee for the Supreme Court. It is apparent that Rehnquist is the next to go. We must replace him with a Scalia or Thomas type justice. But, with these seven Judases giving up all the political power that we supporters of the GOP, the conservatives in Congress ,and the Bush Administration have worked so hard to accumulate, we are losing the clout necessary to get the justices we need.

Do you really think the Democrats wanted to go on record and national TV to argue against Pricella Owens? Do you really think the Democrats wanted to go on record and vote against Janice Brown? Of course they didn't. They were scared to death that they might have had to do that, but thanks to the gang of 7, the Republicans saved the Democrats from their self-destruction.

You're right on target with this. The squishiness of republicans is astounding. I think it's funny how you've got so many people trying to spin this into a win for the pubbies. I intend to remind everyone over and over again as the next general election comes up exactly how useless they are when it comes to actually standing up for a constitutional issue.

What sticks in my craw the most is that if the situation were reversed and it were a democratic President's nominees up for vote, the pubs would trip over their own shoelaces to confirm them. The pubs apparently have no clue on how to act as a majority party.

Screw 'em. They won't get one damn more dime from me until they start acting like the majority they are.

I agree with all except holding fire on the RINO's.
It's great that they came out in the open.

Arrogant and selfish move, it is. They think the Senate is more important than the Constitution, and that the Senate revolves around them.
