Who let us down in the filibuster?
5/23/05 | Asphalt

Posted on 05/23/2005 7:20:54 PM PDT by Asphalt

There are numerous options as to what happened today to provoke the Senators to make the agreement instead of having the nuclear option vote. To me at least, it seems that the GOPers must have realized that they would not have enough votes from senators to get the nuclear option passed. So, assuming that this is the case, which it very well could or could not be, who let us down? McCain? Spectre? Some other RINO? or am I way off?

I have a feeling Lindsay was one of the key problems, judging by the press conference.

Here is my email to my rino senator Wimpy Graham R - SC:

I am so disappointed in you caving in to the democrats and not standing with the President you were elected to support. I have many friends who now call you a RINO - Republican In Name Only. We have a true statesman for a Governor. He looks out for the best interest of the people no matter what the cost, and the people of SC see him for the statesman he is. He also had the courage of his convictions when he represented the 1st district of SC. I had hope you would measure up to his stature, but alas you chose to be popular with the NY Times and the Washington Post.
I had strongly supported you against Alex Sanders. I could never vote for someone like him, and now I cannot cast any future votes for you. Please know that my donations, even thogh they are small, to the RNC will now cease. I will only donate to the individual candidates that stand by their convictions.
If Ronald Reagan had chosen the easy way, there would still be a Soviet Union and Berlin Wall. If George W. Bush had 'compromised' Saddam Husessin would still be killing his own countrymen, and Islamic terrorists would have struck again because they know weakness can be exploited.
There is a saying that the minority is protected for the 'tyranny of the majority.' Well you have failed in protecting the majority from the 'tyranny of the minority'. You may think you have done a good thing. Tell me when was the last time you have known liberals to be trusted? Not anytime on this planet.

Goodbye my former Senator.

This nation is in bad shape...

We have a party of collaborators with every enemy this nation has had in the last 50 years, and a party that has no guts to fight the democrats to save its life.

The republicans caved on Terry, caved on the judges, and will continue caving. Why bother voting for them? The democrats and judges run the nation...

I better learn Spanish...

As someone who is frequently criticizing people for turning on Republicans at the slightest provocation, I am forced to say: You are correct!

Not a big deal. The trend is with us. There's no need to overplay our hand at this point, the same issues will come up in the future. We may be better able to deal with them then, after the 2006 election.

Win/win for us.

We wanted an up or down vote on judges, and the filibuster stopped. We got it.

Secondly, the democrats part of the "deal" is to not filibuster anyone but the "extreme" - which means they have to be "worse" than the ones we're going to be voting on tomorrow (Owens, Brown, etc.) , because the democrats let them pass.
If they can't "prove" another is worse, the Constitutional option - according to the Dems agreement - is still an option. If they renig on their deal, we can still nuke them with clean conscience. They're the ones that lied!

The Democrats lost big tonight.

The three most EXTREME nominees, held at bay for four years because of the "damage" they would do to the nation, have just been cleared by the Democrat moderates.

That means that if Janice Rodgers Brown is nominated to the Supreme Court, the Dems simply will not be able to filibuster her.

Last I heard, we won the election...NOT the democrats...do you think they would have asked us what we think if they had a majority in the senate?

I have been voting for republicans to keep the democrats from power and making decisions...but the guys I vote for seem to lack the gumsion to put the dems in their place.

I'm disgusted...

Every RINO in the Senate let us down. Again. And the sad thing is that McCainiac ran unopposed in the primary just last year.

I hear what you are saying, but to the demonrats EXTREME means anybody Bush nominates. Now they will let these few pass now, but they'll be up to their old tricks, and who will call the on it, the MSM? Ha! The RINOs that caved? No way they will get clobbered if they admit they screwed up. A previous poster said he was one that defended Republicans when they got beat up here, and I too was one of those, and like he says, I too was wrong.

All seven! Every single one sold us out. They will be beatified in the MSM for a few days and that is their 30 pieces of silver. The Constitution will continue to be crucified by leftists for the time being. We need to do whatever we can to get these RINO's out of the Senate.
