Announce Filibuster Compromise
I think I would have preferred the nuclear option to be employed, but if the end result is that all judges get an up or down vote, plus they work on other legislative items like making the tax cuts permanent and social security reform, I think that's a win.
Let the Democrats claim victory. Realists will recongnize otherwise.
I think your analysis of this is exactly right.
This is a dark day for the Republic, and the beginning of the end of the Bush administration.
It's worse, they've "agreed" that the President should consult with both Parties **before** submitting a nomination.

Big yip. 3 WHOLE NOMINEES.
Weren't we up to 5 the other day?
Remind me not to have these idjits negotiate any deals on my behalf.
George Allen is looking better and better! Any good GOP governors out there?
They feel the same way Conan felt:
Mongol General: We have won again. That is good! But what is best in life?
Mongol Warrior: The open steppe, fleet horse, falcon on your wrist, wind in your hair!
Mongol General: Wrong! Conan, what is best in life?
Conan: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of the woman!
no disagreement here...
From what I'm hearing from Frist, he was sideswiped by this deal, assuming he's telling the truth.
But then again, he's probably just upset he didn't come up with the sellout.
Anyhow, I still could care less if he had the votes or not, it was about the principle of an up or down vote, no filibusters. So we lost on principle, and we have surrendered the consitutional option.....That's why I'll probably vote any wacky 3rd party in 06.
Not just for this event, but for the last decade of inept, milquetoast republican leadership...maybe a couple years in the Senate ghetto offices will remind the republicans to actually represent us?
but i am a hopeless romantic.....
Actually ment "our". Sorry, I am fuming right now.
You forgot slack-jawwed
Well his twin is Schumer who is now arguing that he was scheduled to speak at 9:00 p.m. Man never fails to embarrass me and my State during prime time.
Yeah, I love the ones that, get this, actually BELIEVE the Dems at their word.
Talk about gullable.
Hope you're right
seeing as 7 pubs showed up at that Conference I think at best Frist wasn't sure if he had the votes at worst, he knew he didn't have them.
Now we know who to defeat in primaries.
More importantly Brown, Owen, and Pryor will now be confirmed. If Frist didn't have the votes, this was a good bluff.
If it was without his knowledge or consent, he should start making recess appointments after the three votes.
I believe I heard him say EVERY nominee should have an up or down vote, no less. [paraphrased]
This will be played ad nauseum as a victory for the Republic and a major loss for President Bush (power hungry dictator they say he is).
It's one thing for someone to leave the Dems...but quite another to join the Stupid Party...sheesh...
Your right! Frist was weak from day one, and never had what it took to lead.
I need a few minutes before I read this thing. :(
But I am very pleased we see this exactly alike.
