Announce Filibuster Compromise
No, they do not. They are still on the calendar. Nothing has been resolved on Meyers and Saad.
Wrong, the relevant RINO's have swron not to change the rules in the 109th Congress whcih effectively means that any SCOTUS nominations by President BUsh, with King John's approval of course, are subject to fillibuster. And you can dang well count on just that.
That's what I'm saying. This is not a good situation, but hurling oneself over a cliff...as some in here seem to be leaning towards...is a bit extreme. We have a lot of options -- we can vote out the ones we don't like...we have third parties...heck, if there's no one I like to vote for, I can always write in my own name.
But to give up our freedoms...one of our basic fundamental privileges here...because of this setback is just not right. We end up hurting ourselves. And you know, it plays into the hands of the enemy (the socialists) too.

I'm glad to see there is still enough competition for this to even be at issue but, like most others here, I think this "deal" sucks and represents that the difference between the two parties is decreasing rapidly.
I was flicking channels and ended up on Olbermann. The DUmmies heads are going to explode. He and his guest just said the Dems blinked. That what really happened is the Dems blinked, it's going to look like the Repubs did but in reality it was really the Dems and Olbermann agreed.
Lindsey Graham: No matter how much pressue he gets from S.C. or conservative groups he won't listen to them.
Graham says he could vote to end the filibuster in the future....if necessary.

As I said, this is a horrid deal.
I'm sorry, but that's incorrect. All this little maneuver did for Harry Reid was delay the Day of Reckoning - Frist still has the ability to exercise the Option when needed.
More importantly, consider this - if the Option had come to the floor, and Frist were unable to garner 51 votes, the precedent created would have allowed the filibuster to continue unfettered. Nothing could have been done to stop a filibuster of any and all Supreme Court nominees. As it is, the Option is alive, and if the President nominates Brown or Owen to the Court, even the Looney Lefties won't be able to stop their confirmation.

Couldn't agree more. Power is also as much about perception as reality. And tonight's events will create an image that McCain calls the shots in the Senate.

The U.S. Senate will NOT go nuclear. We will see Iran go nuclear before the Senate ever will.
A bit of history:
Republicans threatened to shut down the government over spending in 1995, but in the end, the Republicans cried uncle and caved-in.
The Republicans caved-in over Ruth Bader Ginsberg's Supreme Court nomination. This Marxist was voted in 97-3, for Christ's sake.
The Republicans caved-in over Marxist Souter's nomination. Not one Republican voted against him.
The Republicans caved-in on border control.
The Republicans cave-in. The Republicans ALWAYS cave-in.
I smell some last minute "compromise" where the nuclear option is not triggered. This "compromise" will be structured similar to Bill Clinton's "compromise" with North Korea over nuclear reactors in 1994. In the end, the Democrats win.

Frist isn't giving up. He is saying now is that if the Dems fillibuster any nominee, he will present the nuclear option "to all 100 Senators." He just said so explicitly.
And we retain the right to stop them.
I do, though, think it's wrong and stupid to not just get it over with tomorrow.

For their part, Republicans agreed not to support an attempt to strip Democrats of their right to block votes.
This is worse then I thought.
