I was just listening to Laura talking about CBS cancelling 60 Minutes II, and I thought I heard her say something about cancelling 60 Minutes, getting cancer and losing a fiance is more than a woman can take. Did I hear this correctly?

I hear that Laura is now talking of chemo. She is 40 and was looking to start a family. Chemo many times will make that NOT an option. That may have had a part in the decision.
That seems to be true in a few cases. One of my classmates I grew up with, he got Hodgkin's Disease, I think he had radiation and chemo, he was cured but he was rendered sterile. Good news though, he and his wife just adopted a baby girl born to a teenage mom. Sometimes, I think maybe God puts people like that on this Earth for that purpose of adopting kids who need a home. I know to many people, the joys of biological parenting is great but there are also other options to share the love which is much needed in this world today.

Laura would be great in a conservative harem, but for marriage I would hold out for Ann Coulter. We could corner the market on harsh commentary.

Laura is one the finest & most entertaining radio show hosts today. I wish her the best.

IMHO: Laura should marry and reproduce big time before the biological clock runs out.

When she announced it a week or two ago she mentioned that the two of them had different values - not saying what she meant by it, but I listened to a replay that day to make sure of what she said as the news certainly came as a surprise and I was wondering if I had heard correctly.

What a shame. She's deserving of a happy marriage.

I'd like to see a source, or at least get verification from others here. Otherwise, I'm not biting. Do a search. The "break off" was widely reported right here on FR.

I was out of town and must have missed it. Someone posted a search link on this thread which pretty much verified everything.
I am curious about the circumstances surrounding these events. If I had to guess (and not knowing anything about it, I am), I would say that the wedding was called off because Laura has too much stress in her life at the moment and one of them thought it best to allow her to get past her illness before anything else.
But that is just an uninformed guess.

I am guessing that her fiance's pictures would not have been removed from her website pages if this were the case...
The fact that Jimmie's (sp?) photos are no longer there suggests an end to the engagement for good
Prayers for Laura--she has so much difficult stuff going on

That guy had better hope and pray he's never diagnosed with any kind of major illness, since, according to him, it renders a person unworthy of love. What a jerk.

He has a real deep sense of conviction, doesn't he? He will get exactly as he has done.

I am guessing that her fiance's pictures would not have been removed from her website pages if this were the case... Yikes! That sounds about right. Removing photos is a sign of moving on to another chapter in life.
I'm not worried about her though. She's tough, and has some friends to help her get through this. I still pray for her health though.

No matter how hot a woman is...somewhere there is a guy that is tired of 'getting with her'. Just a fact of life.. Thank you for your compassion.

I can understand the gut reaction to Laura's ex-fiance is to call him 'cad' and all other such things.
However, I'd suggest this first.
The man saved her life.
Had it not been for the marriage proposal, Laura would probably not have gone to her doctor for a checkup. Her cancer could have metastisized and she could be in a position far more dangerous than she is now.
And in a strange sense, if he in fact could not deal with her illness, or the side effects a cure will bring, and caused the 'breakup', then he may have saved her life a second time (at least the emotional part of it) by leaving now.
Whatever happened betwen them is now irrelevant and I can't condemn him.
Laura has my prayers for a full recovery as I'm sure many of you have for her too.
