BREAKINH!!-- FRIST TELLS REID TO POUND SAND -- FILIBUSTER NEGOTIATIONS HALTED!!
Reuters ^ | 05-16-05 | cww

Posted on 05/16/2005 8:11:22 PM PDT by CWW

Just Reported -- Frist and Reid broke off filibuster negotiations tonight -- Both said, "stick a fork in it, we're done" (or words to that effect).

Reid is quoted as saying that Frist wanted "all or nothing." Hmm -- sounds good to me!

Wednesday is D-Day. Better start loading up Fat Man and Little Boy! We're going thermonuclear!

"-- Reid's door is closed. Frist says his is still open. --"

Frist's door is open. Reid's mind is closed, and I think his fly is open - or is that Teddy?

I consider the morals of the matter more important than the politics.

I don't care who is in the minority, filibustering judicial nominees is annoying and wrong.

Exactly. Debate, then vote. If we win, lose or draw, let the chips fall where they may and go from there.

oh, excuse me...he claims we may have enough Dem cross-overs to get to 60 votes.

In his fantasy world, maybe.

Go Frist! The worst that can happen is we lose but flush out the RINOs in the process.

First of all, HITLERY! is NOT going to be president in '09.

Secondly, filibustering judges is NOT usual, nor does it even have a long Senatorial history. The Dems began this tactic, only since President Bush won the 2000 election.

Thirdly, this "nuclear option" needs to be done and is actually long overdue.

Negotiations will restart about an hour before the final vote. This is all about posturing. I suspect there will be a deal. Just a wild guess. Unless of course, Reid has 51 votes tied up tightly. I tend to doubt it. Reid needs by example to demonstrate that the filibuster will be used for important judicial nominees only in the very rare instance. Without that, I suspect he won't have the votes. Watch for more pawns to be moved around on the chess board.

Exactly. There are enough things to filibuster about without having judicial nominees added to that list.

"They need to keep the option open for the Supreme Court. "

And then we have the option of changing the rules- no difference.

I don't know that we have the votes but we need to go thru with the roll call. If it doesn't succeed, so we gave it a try and we will find once and for all who is with us and who is against. If the senate refuses once and for all to go along with the rules change to permit a vote on presidential nominees, the president should send no further nominees to the senate but make only recess appointments until after the next election. In that event the senate will have absolutely no role in selection of judges. In the alternative, we could always just let the judges die off. The last one standing age wise would be Clarence Thomas. We could live with him being the one sole and final arbiter of the constitution and all laws.

Picture the debate in the Senate tomorrow: as the CSPAN-2 cameras pan the chamber, a shiny black obelisk (1x4x9) stands ominously in the back row, with several RINOs furtively touching it and scooting away.

LOL! Perfect!

Eeee EEE Eeee OO OO OO...
