Want to bet it came from the State Dept. one of them left over from the last administration. I'm just waiting for someone to charge that it was Karl Rove who planted the story - knowing full well the blow back Newstweak would receive over it.
He's brilliant ya know.....

Reuters quotes Newsweek editor Mark Whitaker: "We're not saying it absolutely happened but we can't say that it absolutely didn't happen either." Andrew Sullivan, who has long had an peculiar preoccupation with "torture" tales, endorses the fake-but-accurate standard of journalism: "I reiterate what I wrote Saturday: 'Even if this incident turns out to be false, our previous policies have made it perfectly plausible.' That's the deeper issue here."
So, Mr. Whitaker and Mr. Sullivan. Doesn't matter if it's true or not. You want it to be true so you wallow in the slime.
I see this is what passes for "liberal debate."

"This just in from CBS News: The Isikoff story about the flushed Koran has been retracted by Newsweek. Although the story was true, there was no irrefutable evidence, and none could be manufactured in time. Newsweek overreached, but they overreached about the truth! Courage. Courage

The Rathergate fiasco, as bad as it was, did not cause the deaths and injury of innocent people.

Oh I get it. It's not their fault....the source made them do it.

I agree. I hope this puts them completely out of business, but even that won't be enough. But my point is that irresponsible media has already been responsible for the loss of American lives and they just don't GET IT!

I just went to the DU, those asterds are totally whacked. Most, no, all of them are in great need of medication. God help America if the dims ever get the White House again.
Some are saying they bet there was death threats from the WhiteHouse if newsweak didn't retract the story. They'll all nuts over there.

And just using common sense and our own experience, we know the MSM would have checked, double/triple checked, done anything to stall a story getting out there, that was negative to the Clintons.

Then the media would have gone to Klinton to ask for permission to print the story.
They would then be told it's old news, forget it.
