According to broadcast reports this evening, Brian Nichols, the suspect in the Fulton County Courthouse shootings in Atlanta on March 11, has had a jailhouse conversion to Islam.
Nichols, who was indicted last Thursday on 54 charges, including four counts each of murder and felony murder, has requested -- and received -- permission to talk to a local Imam. Nichols will be allowed to pray in accordance to the tenants of Islam as well.
The indictment includes 18 counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, 7 counts of kidnapping, and five counts of hijacking a motor vehicle.
As you'll remember, Nichols was being readied for a rape trial when he overpowered and severely injured his guard, entered the courtroom and shot to death Judge Rowland Barnes and the court stenographer. Nichols subsequently escaped the courthouse, killing a Fulton County Sherrif's deputy, and later killing a US Customs agent before his capture in Gwinnett County.
Fulton County DA Paul Howard has stated that he plans on requesting the death penalty in Nichols' case.

It may not matter in his case, but from what I've read most of the Islamic prison ministries are wahabbi (read Saudi) financed. I fear we have the potential of creating a cadre of jihadists of the Richard Reid varity. Someone needs to look closely at just what's being taught that causes someone to become a shoebomber on release.

I was appalled that the press praised the book and the girl ( as being a natural born negotiator ) , God was not even an after thought.
This is what happens when unregenerate men put a carnal spin on a work of God.
The press loved the story .. even dragging out her past .
I did not hear Rick Warren praise God when they were interviewing him. There was no pointing to the source. He alluded to his surprise at its popularity .. and making doctrine understandable.. but no all the glory to God statements came from his mouth .
The change in the life of this young lady was a work of God.
The press made the story all about Nicholes when in Gods mind this may have been all about protecting the young Christian woman, not the conversion of the man .
Not one bird falls from the sky without it being ordained of God. God knew where Nicholes was and He knew the heart of the young woman. He ordained to preserve her for His purposes .
Nicholes will also be a part of Gods plan in a way we do not see or understand.(romans 9)
I hope God uses this event to bring some humility to Warren.
It was never about his book, it was always about the faithfulness of God to His children

Considering as how the book makes no specific definition of who God is and what the real Gospel is, it's not a surprise at all!
Oh, pullease.... that she read from the Purpose Drivel textbook doesn't mean she witnessed. She distracted him long enough at a point of extreme duress (for both of them) to slip away.

All I heard from him was psychobabble. (alas, much like the book everyone heralded as so 'wonderful' in this story)
It's what Rick's book is all about! Find a religion that matches your 'felt need.' No surprise there.

Divorced from the rest of WHAT book? The whole Purpose Driven phenomenon is divorced from the rest of THE BOOK and is consistent with any theology you want to make it as long as you say the name Jesus once in a while and GOD even more often.

I shan't go find the articles, but the kidnapping victim gave interviews and talked about his interest in Christianity and questions he asked.
It may not be your version of Christianity, and you may not think much of the book A Purpose Driven Life, but from her interviews, he did seem genuinely interested in Christianity.
And isn't forgiveness one of the tenets of Christianity?
So if he was genuinely interested why convert to Islam? I think he was genuinely interested in finding something to fill his 'felt need' all right. But nothing that resembled Christianity.
BTW even Islam professes some esteem for Christ. I guess that means they're interested in Christianity.
