Another 40 members have left in protest.
Waynesville, NC-- The minister of a Haywood County Baptist church is telling members of his congregation that if they're Democrats, they either need to find another place of worship or support President Bush.
Already, the Reverend Chan Chandler has ex-communicated nine members of East Waynesville Baptist Church. Another 40 members have left in protest.

I really don't think GWB would appreciate this either. Not top mention it gives the left more fodder for their anti Christian dribble.
This is sure making great fodder for the anti-religionists.
It's so obvious that this pastor's actions condemns the whole of Christendom.
On that note, I think we should put all atheists on trial for the crimes of Stalin, Pol-pot. Mao Tse-dung, and Castro. Somebody get my hangin' rope!
At a Catholic Charities fund raiser I attended last night, I mentioned to a nun that I could not understand how any Catholic could vote for a Democrat (since they are the party of baby killers). She answered "that's only one issue", then went off about how many people Bush killed in Texas. I responded about innocent life vs. criminal punishment, and was about to point out that Texas law, not the Governor of Texas determines who is executed. But Mrs. JimRed grabbed me (probably would have strangled me, if she could) and declared politics an inappropriate topic.
With politics off the table, things get boring quickly!

So this guy wants a Taliban like church... never thought of it that way. Let's move in and stop him.
Listen, for every church that is led by a Taliban leader (a female lesbian leader), there are 10s of thousands more that are sound.
What I like about the gesture is it opens up discussion about the support given to a Prolife Bush vesus a ProDeath Catholic John Kerry.
That is one problem with Baptist independence, which is why I support the Presbyterian way, which is the middle of the road (one reason why the American Revolution was called the Presbyterian rebellion in England).
This pastor is going too far in any case.
By Presbyterian I mean a system of checks/balances etc...congregations have power, but other governing bodies do as well.

Actually, they can. It's just not called excommunication and the consequences aren't the same. It's called "churching" someone. Basically, it means letting a person know that their beliefs or lifestyle aren't consistent with that church's beliefs. For instance, it's been used to cast a unwed pregnant girl from a congregation. Though I don't agree with the practice, it's not without prescedent in the Baptist Church.
According to many on the left, you're already living in a theocracy.
What it does is further splinter/weaken the church in America. We already have splinter churches based on sex what's next democrat and republican denominations?

There is one funny thing about the story. It is on TV, which suggests it is current. But if so, why does it talk about people being asked to VOTE for Bush? The election was months ago, and there are no more elections for Bush.
