Much of Blair compares to Clinton including a supercilious smile that makes me cringe

Just trying to be helpful. I believe section9 first mentioned it in post #102, and it's been discussed since then. I'll make it a point not to address you again.

We have yet to see any verifiable info regarding turn-out.

I agree. I am especially interested in two of the marginal Welsh seats, Ynys Mon and Conwy, and have phoned friends there. They report medium-low turnout but these are rural areas and may well be atypical. I'm very distrustful of turnout rumors nationwide.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. At least Howard should hold back from further integration with the rest of the EUnuchs (I hope?!)

For what it's worth: President Bush has made the same comparison.

I fear this is Howard's only chance. The Tories are notoriously hard and normally dump a looser if the Conservatives do not at the very least make considerably inroads into the Labour majority they will drop Howard like a hot brick, failure is not allowed in the Conservative Party.

I can see where you would cringe.

Like I said, we conservatives here tend to rally around Blair like crazy concerning Iraq, but I've heard some of the other things he has to say and...well, I'm just glad I don't have to see him on TV every day.

see post 405.

There would also be quite a few ludicrous freepers in that case.

As far as I am concerned (and I got clobbered for saying back then), is that Blair allowed any WMD's that were in Iraq with his feet dragging to disappear into other countries or be buried IMHO. Going back to the UN was a total waste of time and unnecessary but people on here seemed to ignore Blair was behind the move.

I can still remember on his way to meet Pres Bush that he was talking to Bill Clinton about getting his help in the British elections. I often wondered if he was also seeking his advice on his upcoming meeting at the time with Pres Bush.

Too bad. I don't know much about him, but I've liked what I've heard. He seems much stronger than Major.

More than likely as I said earlier on this thread instead of going to Poland for 60th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz he attended a pseudo economic summit with Clinton and BONO

I am a big Bush supporter on most issues but I don't support him 100% across the board -- I cringed when I heard him say that about Blair -- obviously he didn't grasp the difference or he said it for the British consumption.

Stick by my comments -- no comparison between Churchill and Blair. Churchill stood up and IMHO Blair got backed into a corner to where he had no choice. Churchill didn't foot drag but Blair obviously did.

Exactly -- Blair's priorities seem out of whack except for Iraq and still think he was not the willing partner he was portrayed. I can remember some joint news conferences and the look on President Bush's face was not one of dealing with a true friend.

I think the President has a tendency to praise some people way too much to the point it doesn't seem sincere to a lot of people.

Well suffice to say that I was mightily impressed by Blair's resolve during the run up to the Iraq operation. Putting comparisons to Churchill aside, I don't think I can think of one politician in recent times that have showed a similar resolve against massive popular pressure and riddecule.

I guess I am hoping for a Blair victory, but I would not be unhappy with a conservative win either (however unlikely)....

As for the Tories, and please correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to recall that they tried to out socialist labour on both university tuition fees and pensions...

Cheers.

Oh, man. The libs here will love an upset.

They'll be on the tube tonight warning the Republicans and conservatives what happens to those politicians who support the Iraq war. Any peripheral FACTS about the upset will not be brought up or discussed.

Too bad Tony doesn't have a Daley to pull the vote marshmallows out of the fire at the last moment.
