The Vote is under way!
#2 in Wales!
Preseli Pembrokeshire goes blue!
Yes, Finchley was Baroness Thatcher's constituentcy.
I was sure Plaid Cymru would take Ynys Mon and Conwy but Labour held both - bummer.
Well we are making key in-roads, especially in Wales it appears, so not too bad overall.
Yay! :)
You mean the dead don't rise to vote in the British Isles? Those people over there don't know how to run an election!
Yes, it is
It looks to me that the hard left will drag Labour to the left over this, which can only be good for the conservatives.
There is a very decent shot of making it 3 in Wales with Clywd West.
I'm tempted to do a spell check. ;)
Great link, thanks. I like him. He talks about alot ot things. The only thing I didn't see was his opinion on the Iraq war. Was he for it or against it?
Northern Ireland doesn't start counting until tomorrow morning, it is a bit of a throw back to the old days when the security risk at night was quite high. You wanted to see the riots that used to erupt in my home town after the polling stations closed. The army and police had to escort the ballot boxes out of the polling stations, wow they could be pitched battles!
Now that Sinn Fein is so involved in the elections the riots have been called off but its not unusual for attacks on the polling stations to happen. At the last election voters were still queing outside a polling station after closing time in Fermanagh (the constituency with the traditionally highest turnout in the UK, even the dead vote). When the returning officer tried to close certain -ahem - gentlemen advised him to keep it open needless to say Sinn Fein won.
Britain has the good fortune to have social policy set by the Commons, not by judges. The hot-button American social issues aren't important there because neither side has used anti-democratic means to ram their pet cause down the throat of the British public.
You should have heard me trying to learn "Bread of Heaven" during the Six Nations Tournament - and that was in English. ;)
Probably
Labour 312 (-31), Conservative 128 (+21), LibDems 43 (+8), Scottish National 6 (+2), Plaid Cymru 3 (-1), Independent 2 (+1) (494/646 reporting, Labour needs 12 more to win)
Mybe nxt tme, boyo.
That could change in the future though - I'm sure gay advocates are pushing to go...
A Labour win overall was all but a given, but these circumstances are certainly good for the Tories.
