Most of Mrs. Bush's humor at the correspondents' dinner was just right: Edgy but not over the edge. But I think the stripper and horse jokes were totally beneath her.
Just put it to the other-shoe test: If it were Teresa Heinz Kerry standing up on the dais telling the same jokes, the conservative commentariat would be buzzing for the rest of the year about what a tasteless skank she is.

Now who's hyper.
Try not to pontificate so much if you can't obey the forum rules.

You're a boring whiner. Get lost like you promised you would earlier.

Sanity question -- why do so many people keep saying "five days" "six days" and "almost a week"? Didn't she make this speech on Saturday night?

No. I kind of like toying with you; you're so knee-jerky.

YOU agreed to the rules and YOU broke them. That's like saying the police are hyper about the speed limits.

It just seems like a week.

EVERY president since Calvin Coolidge has gone to the dinner. True enough. But in that era, there were strong conservative influences in the press, for example, the Hearst, Scripps-Howard, and McCormick newspaper chains. The MSM is presently overwhelmingly hostile to Republicans (except RINOs) and conservatives. To add to the mix were entertainment industry personages like Jane Fonda and liberal politicians like Chuck Schumer. In fairness, Laura Bush was playing to a tough audience.
However, with the partial exception of the Reagan administration, GOP presidents from Eisenhower on have not been inclined to challenge the gatekeeper role of the MSM or to seriously contend with the sort of arrangements that provide liberal organizations like Planned Parenthood, PBS, and the National Endowment for the Arts with Federal funds.
I hope a future Republican president will push to end the too cozy relationships with lobbyists and Democrat and RINO politicians. A modern day conservative iconoclast is what is needed to overturn the money changers' tables.

Lainie, I assumed that the 5 or 6 day reference was to how many days it is until Sunday when the Christians will hear about Laura's speech and the outrage will be voiced in the Christian media. If my assumption is wrong, I'm sure someone will correct me.

Does talking like that make you feel important? I'm 21, not 83.

Just as I figured. Not able to do what you said.

This is the issue I have with it. If I heard those jokes on South Park, which I watch regularly, I would probably would have laughed. Hearing the jokes Malkin pointed out from the First Lady however, no matter what party, is just not something I expect from someone who is in such an esteemed position.

You'd wither up and die if nobody replied to your specious rants.

To: billbears
Did you see it? If not, please do. It's NOT what these people are making it out to be.

You'd wither up and die if nobody replied to your specious rants. Such a clever comeback. Wow. (extreme sarcasm) It would be better if you would do what you said you were going to do.
To: what's up
I already said I didn't want to.
