Most of Mrs. Bush's humor at the correspondents' dinner was just right: Edgy but not over the edge. But I think the stripper and horse jokes were totally beneath her.
Just put it to the other-shoe test: If it were Teresa Heinz Kerry standing up on the dais telling the same jokes, the conservative commentariat would be buzzing for the rest of the year about what a tasteless skank she is.

Count me among those who agree that it is spot "on". Oh, so those who disagree with a couple of the First Lady's statements and the Taliban who advocate bombing and executions for dissent are now to be equated by people like you?
I think you need to go back to school and take Logic 101, my friend. Your comment is nonsensical.
To: Melas
You nailed it.
It's become a haven for the mentally disburbed. It scares me that there are so damn many of them!!

Actually, I think you're onto something about the anger at women.
I can't even count the number of posts I saw yesterday that condemned the First Lady for even speaking at the event. No matter what she said, they were going to find something wrong with it because, darn it, the little woman should be seen but not heard.

real Christians don't go around telling other Christians they somehow just aren't good enough. That bears repeating. We're not even talking about a situation here where a rebuke is necessary. We're talking about pseudo-Christians laying in wait for someone to exhibit the slightest sin so they can point and scream like pod people. What's worse is they're obviously dripping with self-satisfaction as a result.

There's just one thing I'm still not getting after all these years of lurking, and a day or so of posting...
Can I label myself as a non-taliban Christian conservative, moderately dressed country clubbing, big city visiting, rural living American Republican?
'Cause I'm having a really hard time figuring out which label I'm supposed to put on my profile page.
BTW, I figure these threads are just practice for the really important stuff.

The radical 1-2% of the base is trying for classic over-reaching and it's not a pretty sight. It's humorless and petty and at times, what with the name calling of the First Lady a whore and worse, it's ugly.
Maybe, but at least these folks are with us 95% of the time. This beats the heck out that invasion of the libertypost dingdongs we had before the election.

Michelle Malkin? She must be a city girl. The Holier than Thou group will feel so vindicated and the hijacking of FR by the Taliban right will be complete. You're all part of a "Holier than Thou" group too. You just don't realize it.

And anyone who has been here for more than, oh, say 10 days, knows that you have NEVER had anything good to say about the president, the administration or our military.
But keep pretending that you're offended by something innocent and surely some newbie will believe you.

But please, please don't cast Laura out as a "whore" or a "slut" because of it."""
Who used either of those words? Some people thought a couple of her jokes were in low taste - which they were. I haven't seen anybody call her those words.
To: Texas Deb
Much ado about nothing.
You can say that again. These worthless threads leave me exacerbated defending against pointless outrage.
I bet the smack talkers hate their neighbors too having been given the time to find enough fault with the innocent to do so.
Give them time and they will hate us all no matter where we stand.

I was hoping Laura might challenge Hillary in 2008...does this adversely affect that potential run?

Or perhaps it's proof positive that the sheeple mentality has crept into the Republican party along with the anti-Christian mentality. You know, the mentality that says if someone disagrees with me on whether a flipping joke was appropriate, they must be a bad sheeple and should be shot down as a member of the evil religious right? Nope, not going to fly. This isn't about someone finding the humor unfunny, or even appropriate. This is about the vitriol (don't dare me to post quotes, it will take me all day) that was unecesarily, inappropriately, and disproportionately leveled at the First Lady. Those who took that route started this little mess.

It's been happening for a couple of months now.
We're either not conservative enough for Christian enough for a bunch of these never-heard-from-before posters.
If the stakes weren't so high, I'd just love to see how many elections those 1-2% 'ers think they can win without the more moderate among us.
Which is how I've now labeled myself. As a former Atilla the Hun moved to the middle by the unintended consequence of deciding that I absolutely don't want to be aligned with people who have no humor and have such rigid "rules" about what constitutes a good anything.

I cant believe how many people havent heard this old farm joke before. This is crazy. last night giant thread about this subject was pulled. It got ugly I'm sad to say.
To: Peach
I haven't felt the need to excuse the remarks and stand by them. 100%. The radical 1-2% of the base is trying for classic over-reaching and it's not a pretty sight. It's humorless and petty and at times, what with the name calling of the First Lady a whore and worse, it's ugly.
I see, and you're a much better person for calling everyone else in the thread who disagrees with you a member of the Taliban and a Bible thumper. I didn't see anyone chopping peoples heads off or shooting women in a stadium. Your comments were just as ugly. If you hate it from other people, don't dish it out. The hypocricy on this thread turns the stomach. You all talk about the "extremist fringe" who have different moral values than yourselves. Do your really think the majority think Christians are the Taliban? YOU are the extremist fringe.

LOL.
That's what they are...practice for when the big guns of the DNC start really coming onto FR...generally around election time.
