Most of Mrs. Bush's humor at the correspondents' dinner was just right: Edgy but not over the edge. But I think the stripper and horse jokes were totally beneath her.
Just put it to the other-shoe test: If it were Teresa Heinz Kerry standing up on the dais telling the same jokes, the conservative commentariat would be buzzing for the rest of the year about what a tasteless skank she is.

No... and I won't buy you a drink either.
President Bush and Bill Clinton find themselves in a barbershop at the same time. The barbers are very nervous, but they each do their very best work. At the end, Clinton's barber says to him, "Aftershave, Sir?" Clinton says, "Oh, no, Hillary will smell that and think I've been in a whorehouse."
George Bush says to his barber, "I'll have some--Laura doesn't know what a whorehouse smells like."
I can't imagine who'd want you to.
Welcome to FreeRepublic... where were my manners?!
Thanks!
It turns out I had heard that one before, but it's a good one (I'm awful at remember jokes but once I rehear them it trips my memory).
LOL
Thank you so much.
No kidding! What is wrong with these people. Do they honestly believe that the Republican Party will be destroyed because the First Lady tells a couple of jokes? If that's the case, the Party deserves to fall. I cannot believe this thread is this long!
I would ask you to kiss and make up, but Lord knows what a certain faction on here would think of that!
Oh, what a pleasant curse that is! Pallidin must really love you to send you off to be with the friendliest folk on the net!
BTW... I don't think I've blessed this thread with this yet. Perhaps it's time for all of us to go home.
Next! This one's been milked dry.
Sorry to barge in on this, but it caught my eye on the thread.
I'm relatively new here, posted some stuff and got really weird responses. Just hateful, not really responding to what I said. I don't care if people disagree with me, I like the debate, and I try to be nice. But some just seem to want to fight. I just ignore it, but it's annoying when you want to discuss topics.
You seem to indicate this is a new phenomenon?
Just came from a thread about Michael Savage going off on Laura and the President for 3 days consecutive. One poster on the thread just tossed out casually that his pure image of Laura had been ruined because she told "bestiality jokes", and several others said the agreed with his sentiments, even copying them at the top of their comments. What on earth is happening to this place?
They don't like me either. *sniff, sniff*
Me too. But if you were on a thread about religion, evolution, illegal immigration, Ayn Rand, the Civil War, or Walmart you can expect to get flamed by one side or the other. LOL!
"It's a show about these housewives. And they're Desperate!" - Dave Letterman placemarker
You forgot abortion. But Walmart?! LOL!
Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone. I mean, my friends think I'm freaky conservative but here, I've been called a liberal. Wow, first time in my life!
If that's all you've been called, you weren't trying hard enough. LOL! By the way, if it gets out of hand don't hesitate to hit abuse.
Armstrong wasn't paid by the White House. Armstrong was paid by a Communications company that was employed by the Department of Education.
It's shameful to pretend that you are an independent commentator when you are being secretly paid to promote policy.
Armstrong was paid to run advertisements on his Radio show. Armstrong wasn't paid to promote policy on the non advertising portion of his show. Paid advertisements by their nature are not -- secret.
You get your news from Malkin and others in the MSM, don't you? How else could you be so wrong...so often.
And it's shameful for the White House to solicit that kind of support.
The propaganda keeps coming from you. You should be ashamed.
Oh yeah, I forgot, I was called Hillary. Okay, I can put up with a lot, but that . . .
Thanks for the advice.
Both Malkin and you are the ones who are defining the standards for the first lady. In fact we all do it.
In your eagerness to defend those jokes,
I never defended the jokes. I'm simply holding Malkin to her own standards. You seem to have a mental block understanding this. What part of that don't you get? Or maybe, like you accuse me, you are dishonest.
So, I'll ask again: Are you seriously suggesting that you would be in 100% agreement with Malkin if she had put "f*ck" on her site instead of spelling out the word?
On this subject, yes.
Neither situation has anything whatsoever to do with the other. And it is my opinion that you know that's true...
AS I said before;
You don't think that the president and Laura Bush receive hate mail with the f-word? What about Rush Limbaugh? What about FOX news? I don't see them publicly and graphically displaying their obscene mail with all of the vulgarities spelled out. How cheap is that? How vulgar is that? You don't think their's another way to make that point without coming down to the level of the person who sent the e-mail? If they wanted to communicate that they received such obscene hate mail do you think that they would simply say that they received hate mail with obscene words in it or do you think that they would graphically display the hate mail on their website for all the world to see? Last week I received an X rated pop-up on my computer screen. Using your logic, it would be perfectly okay to post that picture here when bringing the subject up. What Malkin did was equivalent to what Laura Bush did and maybe even worse in that aspect.
You don't get it. IMO you're a dunce.
I don't know how to answer your question, txrangerette and it's one we've all been asking.
