Fox's "24" is pulling off the unthinkable this season. No, it's not that it's one-upping previous seasons with an electric blend of nightmare terrorist scenarios and bold twists. It's that it's dispensing with the politically correct evasions that pervade prime time episodic television. "24" identifies the terrorist enemy without flinching and lets the good guys fight to win -- without apologies. In the process, the show is earning a conservative cult following.

Some sort of leftwing message will ultimately emerge. Fox Entertainment is just as liberal as all the others.
We need the ultimate "crossover" show where Jack meets Vic Mackey!
Well, is Shane a dead redneck walking or what this year?
One of the best shows on TV!
OK, time for some real realism.
For the next show, the men of the CTU will fill out their expense reports and try to get the signatures required for reimbursement.
They are not allowed to torture any accounts payable personnel, no matter how difficult this mission turns out to be.
Jack Bristow in Alias doesn't take any crap either. Also a great show.
I thought it was great and watched a whole season both times over a week or so.
I can't picture waiting 20+ weeks to go through a season. Being it's a single 24 hour day, this isn't like your typical series. It is like a 007 soap opera where the daughter always finds herself to be the professional hostage. LOL
I do think it is a great show.
" It has terrorists engaged in several simultaneous plots, each of which individually would be almost impossible to pull off."
Right.
Terrorist #1 "I have a great plan to attack the US"
Terrorist #2 "Ok, what is it"
T1 "First we steal a Stealth fighter"
T2 "Uh huh"
T1 "Then we shoot down Airforce 1"
T2 "Right"
T1 "Then we steal some pages of the nuclear football from the wreckage so we activate some stolen nukes..."
T2 Sounds good so far...
Me too!! Everything comes to a full stop when 24 is ON!!!
True. Total suspension of belief is mandatory to enjoy 24. It's a conservative fairy tale. Especially the torture of terrorists scenes. HOW I WISH!
It's a lot of fun, but you have to swallow "suspension of disbelief" pills the size of bread loaves to watch it.
Looks like you've never had a federal employee describe his job to you.
24 is one of a few things I still enjoy watching. I got hooked over Christmas break. I suppose if you watch an entire season of 24 in under 24 hours, that means you're a fanatic.
But don't start watching season 4 until you've seen season 1-3 in order. Season 2 is beautiful.
Season 3 was good without any real stupid distractions, and so far Season 4 is great, but I am nostaglic for old characters to stay come back including Kim, who I hated before. I wonder what will they do in Day 5, they had a assassination attempt, a presidential coup, nuke attempt, virus release, kidnapping, nuke attempt again.
Maybe in Day 5 they have to deal with the an invasion from MEXICO, and we see them CLOSE down the border finally only to be stopped by Ted Kennedy and the ACLU threatening to shut down CTU, and Jack goes to extreme measures by threatening to release the pictures of Ted Kennedy in a Thong if they dont back off!
Monday night at my house is "all phones are turned off" night, and it's been like that for three years now. When each '24' episode is over the first thing that occurs to me is that it's 6 days and 23 hours before the next episode. We (my son and I) LOVE that show!
I was also a big fan of La Femme Nikita, upon which '24' is based, so it was really interesting to see the 'Madeline' character from LFN show up this season in the same role on '24' (as Driscoll). I wonder if she will be back? Probably not this season, but maybe next?
Here are some of my other preferences in comparing '24' with the original version, La Femme Nikita:
Although the 'Richards' character on '24' (interrogation specialist) is good, I thought the LFN characters who had the same role were definitely more ominous and creepy, especially the short blonde with the thick glasses. When those two popped open the little briefcase with the needles, you could feel the fear. And they never said a word!
Although I liked the 'Michael' character from LFN, his counterpart, the 'Jack Bauer' character from '24' is easily better, probably because he is more violent and simply looks rougher. (Unfortunately, there is no 'Nikita' character on '24'. She was sweet!)
Also:
1. I like the 'Chloe' and 'Edgar' characters about equal to their counterpart, 'Birkoff'.
2. It's too bad that '24' didn't reprise the 'Walter' character.
3. The various folks that '24' has brought in as "big honchos" have not been as good as 'Operations' was on LFN.
Other than all that, the sets of the two counter-terrorism units ("CTU" and "Section") are virtually indistinguishable. In fact, it would not surprise me to learn that the 'CTU' set and the 'Section' set are one and the same. I understand that some of the people who worked on LFN are now working on '24'. No surprise there - - they certainly know the formula.
Great, great TV in my opinion.
(Realistic or not, who cares?)
I'm glad you saw this as I was going to ping you to it.
We need more Jack Bauers, for sure.
And after last week's ending with Chloe, I can't wait for this evening. Go Chloe!!!!
you know I always wonder that about the Amazing Race
I have a friend with a small bladder and it drove me crazy when we were travelling, and we weren't in a hurry, you know what I mean
I love 24, realism hmmmm but entertainment yeah
Marwan is the Zarqawi of TV terrorists, LOL
24 fan checking in.
I may carp a little, but it's my favorite show.
I never watched untill this season, cuz I couldn't deal with having to wait a whole season, but now I deal with it.
I do plan to get the other season DVD's.
A little suspension of logic is required, but that's true of most action adventures.
