Noting that in his Good Friday homily soon-to-be pope Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger condemned the "filth there is in the church," Wheeler believes the pontiff "will not tolerate [homosexuality's] presence in his church."

,,, pillow biting in the Catholic Church is one of many problems it's faced with. The crooked dealings the Vatican Bank had in the BCCI affair; the abilty to buy anulments when there's a no divorce policy and other inconsistencies made me vote with my feet.

John Paul the Great was the transition.

A 26-year transition that cemented into place every modernist novelty implemented not only by himself but by his three predecessors? This John Paul the Great stuff has got to stop. Please pray for the repose of his soul rather than giving him phony accolades.

Perhaps the reason why more Masses aren't offered in Latin is because folks prefer the Mass in the vernacular.

Who cares what they want? This isn't the Sissychurch.

Dear Judica me,

Should you grow a civil tongue in your head, feel free to post to me some time in the distant future.

Until then, please do not post to me again.

I do believe that His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI is an ass kicker. And that's just what we need at the helm at this time.

actually the more i thought about this, i am right and you are wrong. i didn't say Washington diocese, i said Washington area, because that is where the hispanic population is. Obviously there would be no point to having a spanish mass at a parish in Woodbridge VA or in Bowie, MD, where the hispanic population is de minimus. The hispanics live closer to DC, so the parishes in the DC area, in both the Washington and Arlington dioceses, DO have spanish masses. it is just common sense. looking at the location of the parishes listed on both the Arlington and Washington dioceses websites make that clear. for some reason it seemed important to you to prove me wrong, when i said that the churches in the DC AREA have spanish masses, but in fact, it is true.

"There is much to be said in favor of such--sort of like stained-glass windows, silence during parts of the Mass, and really good music--not the Mr. Rogers tripe."

In other words---tradition. Don't get me wrong--"tradition" is a perfectly acceptable answer. I just don't buy the theory that Latin has some kind of "magic advantage" over other languages with respect to the accurate tranmission of Church teachings and/or prayer. That is obviously bogus, as the key original dogmas of the Church had to first be accurately translated from Aramaic into Greek and Latin (Matther, Mark and John being Jews, and Luke being Greek).

As a practical matter, I think a perfectly acceptable approach is "both"---with local option.

"Why is this ONE language being treated differently than any other? If mass is offered in many languages for the comfort of the faithful, why not in Latin for those of us who feel at home with it?" Who is threatened by Latin mass, and why? I'm sure God hears us in all languages. He doesn't care how you speak to Him, as long as you do. He listened to Latin for thousands of years. I don't think if offends Him now."

Again, your points are the most logical offered on the point. I think Latin mass as an option is perfectly valid. After all, many Catholic churches in ethnic neighborhooods offer some of their masses in the particular majority language (Spanish, for instance).

I have no idea what you are quoting or what it means, and I suspect you don't either.

Sometimes it seems that Christianity is weakening, or atleast it's testimony on Earth is weakening. You have 1 billion supposed Catholics more interested in Mary glorification and pope glorification, and building glorification who know nothing about the gospel and you have a hodgepodge of denominations who are also walking away from the scriptures. I actually visited a methodist mission in CR a couple of weeks ago. I didn't know what it was going to be or that it was Methodist when I went in but my wife asked if I would leave if there was a female pastor. Well I said yes but after I got there and saw that there was this female that was going to preach, morbid curiosity caused me to stay.

All in all she wasn't that horrible doctrinally. I've seldom heard a preacher that I couldn't criticize anyway, if you can imagine that. But the whole thing reminded me of Saul offering a profane offering. It's not that he was not good enough to worship or serve the Lord, but he wasn't supposed to do that.

The main and most telling fruit of Roman Catholicism is that it has succeeded in spreading the Gospel all over the planet. The Roman Catholic Church is by far the largest Christian denomination in the world, as it has been throughout history, and it is the Christian denomination that has done more than any other to spread knowledge of Christ throughout the world.

I wish. But what the RCC is spreading is not the gospel. Most RC's don't have a clue if they are saved and barely even get what the word means after you explain it to them. It's not the gospel it's just a very religious religion, just like the pharasees had.

I absolutely LOVE his voice! Very strong.

Priest and former Ranger. You can't beat a combo like that. I remember the first time I heard him on shortwave. I thought, "who is this guy?" His voice is the voice I imagine God having.

His story is still one of my favorites.

Everyone should hear it. It's incredible. One highlight is when he's wrapping up his hour long first confession in twenty years. The priest says, "did you notice the time? 3 o'clock. The hour when Jesus died." "Yes, and I have something to tell you father." "What's that?" "I'm going to be a priest." The priest stammered, "Well, anything's possible with God"! 8-)

There's more to 'sacred time, sacred space, sacred language' than "Tradition." That sort of reduction-to-pragmatism is dangerous for both the 'conservatives' and the 'liberals,' but is quite common in the USA.

Orthodox Jewry regards the Sabbath rest in a different way than Americans do, for example. Their take is not "rest from labor;" it's far more encompassing--sort of a "let go, let G-d [do what He wills]" weltanschauung.

The American 'positivism' infects far more than just the laws.

I am certain that every preacher whom you criticize is just as pleased as is the Roman Catholic Church with your insightful and pointed analysis.

You are a member of high rank in the Church of YOPIOS. Congratulations, and please go away.
