THAT's the baited hook for rat's. If they bite, SS will just become viewed as just a welfare program:):)
I thought the whole thing kind of sucked. I only nodded off or lost interest a half a dozen times. The hottest issue facing the country today is illegal immigration, and not a peep was said by anyone. NOT A PEEP!! What the he** is going on?
After campaigning hard for President Bush, I am frankly dissapointed and embarrassed. Hopefully I don't reach the point of being disgusted.
You will be competing with Muslims, and paying higher taxes, to boot.
Alan is asking and answering all questions tonight! This is unbelieveable!
You have no 'social security account' even if your card says you do.

People don't get it HR, it's a pyramid scheme... and illegal by most any standards, unless you are the fedgov. UNBELIEVABLE.
I worked my butt off - went from secretary to Documentation Clerk, to Junior Quality Inspector, to Senior Quality Inspector (only woman among 20 men, some of them openly hostile to me).
Worked many, many 12-hour swing shifts 1600-0400. Had a heart attack with ventricular fibrillation in 1992 while undergoing a physical to wear a protective suit designed to protect from rocket fuel. Went back to work and continued on until 31 March 2005.
It ain't always easy out there - just suck it up and keep on truckin'.
Dang..dude...you must live in constant rain....
personal accounts=moral hazard?
What are you talking about---the personal accounts is the best idea re: social security---
Hmmm... Never heard of that one (I'm gettin' old I guess). How about "Pimp My Ride?" Actually, my husband found that show to be pretty funny! But once was enough...
Is that Croc Hunter guy still on Animal Planet? LOL
I am not sure his origin has the same type of system.
We need about 15 more like him (John Thune).
Well, to begin with, I'm with you on just bagging the whole system outright. In a perfect world, it could happen. BUT... The world ain't perfect and we've got scads of fearful and gullible citizens out there who'll catch the talking heads at six o'clock and dutifully gulp all it down hook, line and sinker.
GWB's changes are nowhere near as radical as what you and I would advocate, and he's bogging down because of the difficulty in educating the general populace. Even without the MSM and the Dems, he'd have an uphill fight getting folks to understand what his proposal would mean to them, much less getting them on board as supporters.
Fact is, as you well know, most folks don't know where to get a decent Executive Summary of the President's plan and less than half of them would read it even if they had it given to them for free.
So, as much as we dislike it, we're along for the ride and I think we'll profit more from taking what we can get from a President willing to tackle the issue, than we would from holding out for the arrival of a perfect world where we can dsimantle the system altogether. Think of it as an incremental approach to the problem that, if it brings good results, will prove the naysayers wrong and pave the way for a future shift of the system toward something wholly privately controlled.
Just think, if we can get the whole thing transformed into a privately controlled account over the next 20-30 years, we could even get the Democrats to be the ones to vote to abolish it. Wouldn't THAT be ironic?
Oh, and about the 80k; it was just the way you phrased what you wrote.
You didn't listen...so you conclude a persuasive case COULD NOT HAVE BEEN MADE. And yet, you want US to listen to YOUR opinion.
I'm not listening to you...therefore, you made no case.
Yes, this should be a slam dunk for President Bush. Do you want to continue allowing none of your SS money to be invested and owned by you or do you want to be able to invest and own 1/3 of it?
Oh yeah, I forgot, there's a clogged drain and Bush wants to tear down the whole house.
yes but, to the political advantage of the Dems. these "poor" seniors will vote for them in droves if the SS system essentially becomes welfare for the elderly.
The Right needs a better spokesperson, if indeed he speaks for the right. I realize the press is the enemy, but ducking an grinning only appear as a sign of weakness, imo. Then again, I may suffer from 'style-over-substance' syndrom. Tough cowboy trumps cute cowboy, especially when the issue is N. Korea.
Bump bump bump! Spoken like a true conservative, and adult person. Very refreshing in these days of no personal responsibility and shifting of blame for the misfortunes.
He approves, that's what's going on.

"Is that Croc Hunter guy still on Animal Planet?"
I think so, but anyway Thursday nites are marathon World's Funniest Animals shows. That's what I switched to after seeing Colmes' funereal face.
