A MoveOn.org TV ad just aired on CNN's Inside Politics. It sent me to the MoveOn.org web site, where the ad is available for viewing, and where I note that it's named "Radical Rampage."
The focus is on the possible GOP move to deny Dems the right to filibuster judicial nominees. The ad shows a pack of angry elephants rampaging through the streets of Washington, DC, knocking down the pillars of the Supreme Court and doing other damage.
A somber announcer intones about "extremist judges," etc.
In the final scene, the announcer talks about some Senators being willing to stand up to the Republicans. The screen shows a single man standing in the street, courageously holding his hand up before an advancing elephant.
The visual parallel with the famous image of the single man holding his hand up and trying to stop a tank in Tianamen Square during the pro-democracy uprising there was unmistakeable. Of course the Chinese communists eventually quashed the demonstrations violently, killing untold numbers of protestors.
That's right. MoveOn.org is analogizing Republicans to the Butchers of Tianamen Square.
thanks for clearing that up.
Funny how all of the worst extremists that they use as examples of how bad things can get are on the LEFT! (Nazis, Communists, etc.)
As a sickening aside, Inside Politics just aired a segment in which Bill Clinton made a video appearance at a Labour Party rally in the UK to explicitly endorse Tony Blair "and the entire Labour team."
Now, I know W also likes Blair. But "the entire Labour [i.e. socialist] team"? Why would Clinton go so clearly on record endorsing socialism?
Also, Clinton engaged in some blatant boasting. He said "for people who don't think it makes a difference whether you have a progressive government, just look at the difference in the USA between today and four years ago [i.e., when I was in power]."
For Clinton, even in a British election, it's still always about him.
Judy Woodruff reporting just now that Frist is rejecting Reid's compromise, which apparently would have let some nominees be confirmed in return for the GOP withdrawing some other nominees. Good for Frist!
The ad just ran again during Inside Politics. Looks like George Soros has some big bucks to burn on this.
Whatever argument suits them at that particular moment . . .
Well, I have to say, this surprises me. Frankly, I thought Frist would have caved in by now. Perhaps the good doctor has grown a backbone.
Paging a FR techie to please post the freeze-frame of the man and the elephants from the MoveOn ad to compare to the Tianamen image.
"Thank You very much CNN for giving MoveOn MILLIONS worth of free advertising time by showing that clip. Here's hoping the other media outlets DO NOT follow suit (but probably will)."
to be fair, i only saw all the swiftie ads through the news and i saw them a lot! they didn't show them here as paid ads at all but i could recite them to you anyway through the free advertising. they do it for both sides. just sayin is all...
Actually, as I've clarified, CNN did not air the ad as part of its coverage. It ran as a paid ad during commercial breaks.
HnO, can you help?
Many thanks for trying to recruit an FR tech star!
Oh my word! This is .. for real? Move-on actually did this "commercial"? This is too FUNNY! They are making a walking parody of themselves! This is riiiich! hahaha!!!
Not only did they do it, but it aired at least twice during Inside Politics, so they are spending big bucks on it.
I liken the Democrats to Jeffrey Dahmer.
But without the charm.
Thanks Governs.
Thank you for sharing this with me. I don't think Move-On is spending *enough* money on it yet. They need to really get this broadbased and out there.. like, on more prime-time shows. I don't think Move-On is trying hard enough, yet. :)
That's just sick.
It demeans a true act of courage that took place in 1989.
The Dems should be ashamed to be associated with a group like MoveOn when they put out junk like this.
(Yes, I understand that would require a conscience of sorts in the first place. I just felt like venting.)
The lefties continue to dig their on grave.
