I'm old enough to believe Dr. Who was/is the best sci fi on the tube. It isn't about the special effects, it's about the stretch of imagination. Sadly, my cable company doesn't offer BBC currently, so I can't get the latest Dr. Who episodes being made. [Tom Baker was my favorite Dr., BTW, but Pertwee runs a close second.]

Yes, the Message from Avalon (or whatever) was one of the weakest.

I remember an unkind reviewer of the fist ep. referring to Molari as "Count von Bozo." Yet he turned into one of the most tragic, full-orbed figures I've seen in the secular arts.

the nature of the Centauri

I've always seen the Centauri as very "European". Maybe it was their Napolean style outfits. The palace and its residents gave an impression of the court of Versailles.

I think he was cut out to be a scoundrel and then to mellow out. He got worse than he deserved at the end.

"What should have been a mans man leading a manly crew . . ."

. . . sailing to manly ports, like -- Key West, and San Francisco.

Voyager wasn't a total waste. I'd love to see a movie or something where Seven of Nine and T'pol have to go through the decontamination chamber at the same time.

Now that's must see TV.

Well given the "crew" they put on Enterprise, I'd tend to say San Fran and Key West.. were where this lot was likely to show up...

fans of of the kirk spock years have to check this out:

http://www.newvoyages.com/news.html

this group is creating new episodes in what would have been the fourth year/season of kirk/spock episodes. you have got to see their episode that is a sequel to both Doomsday Machine and City on the Edge of Forever. They even got William Windom to do a scene as Decker, and the actress from Mirror Mirror (Captain's woman)as a guest also.

very cool stuff. just download the zipped episodes in parts, unzip and watch.

"No offense but everything mentioned here is dunnage compared to the Frank Herbert Dune series."

" . . .were where this lot was likely to show up..."

Or simply returning from whence they came.

THe entire Dune series, which can be adequately reviewed and summed up in three words:

Complex
Loveless
Joyless

Have you forgotten Babylon 5? Just becasue it wasn't turned into an never ending multiple-franchise and it stuck to its 5 year arc is no reason to dis it.

Those are the reasons to love the show! A story needs a beginning, middle, and end. Tell the story, wow the audience, and then get off the stage. It's always best to leave the viewer wanting more rather than giving him too much. That's why B5 will always be remembered as one of the greatest SF epics.

I disagree. There were a lot of shades of grey in B5. Londo's gradual descent with his alliance with the Shadows. Sheridan using the telepaths as weapons against the Shadows. Bester being kind to the PsyCorps trainees. Delenn giving the order that started the Earth-Minbari war. Garibaldi's alcoholism and betrayal of Sheridan. Lockley having fought on the side of Clarke in the civil war. Even the Vorlons and Shadows were partially correct. And that's just off the top of my head, I'm sure there's more.

Great stories have conflict, internal and external, as well as action.

Er, wasn't he playing a drug addled homeless guy in that episode? So wouldn't it be good that he look like a heroin addict?

Wheaton's actually nothing like Crusher. Having read his blog, he's a relatively normal guy. (Huge lib though.) In fact he was playing in the World Poker Tournament until earlier today, when Annie Duke knocked him out.

Farscape wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I have to be in a mood to watch it. I put it on the same level as Lexx which could be a vice sometimes, just plain strange other times.

B5 and SG1 were far better... I've not seen much of the new BG (I'm too cheap to get cable) but what I've seen and read it looks excellent as well.
