The only mystery to this series was how did they make Jolene Blalock's breasts defy gravity? TV will be a much bigger wasteland with her gone from it. She occasionally guests as "Ishta" on SG-1, y'know.
You're right about the wasted potential of the show. I was pulling for a "Romulan Wars" plotline that would've tied-in with TOS, but noooooo....

I agree. SCiFi does run a heavy load of crap movies and shows. All those crummy 'reality' shows on WEdnesday night make it a wasteland. Weekends are also mostly a wasteland of crummy movies.

I never understood the attraction to B5. The aliens were cartoonish. Couldn't take it serious. Ranked right down there with the original Battlestar AFAIC.
Now, a truly great SciFi show that cut way too short was Space: Above and Beyond. The writing was actually about the people, as it should be. Looking back it reminds me of a cross between Star Ship Troopers and BG2.

I always got a kick out of watching Londo and Garibaldi together, Dan.
I had to constantly remind myself that Pete Jurasick also played the superbly slimy and whiny "Sid, the Snitch" on "Hill Street Blues" about a year earlier opposite Dennis Franz as "Bad Sal" Benedetto" under all that make-up.
Ivanova and Emperor Kosh were great examples of "Less is More" in their style.
Jack.

" . . .because the human characters are sooooo PC they deserve to be exterminated"
I don't see it that way at all. Why? Just bec there is female president? And here we are talking about possibly voting for Condi for prez. Anyway, considering the plot line has the prez being deeply religious sure doesn't seem PC to me.

The problem with the good science fiction is that it is not PC.
B5, Firefly, Star Trek (60's), Crusade, BG2, and others is that hey ask tough questions and try to give real answers. Also there are real bad guys and they are treated that way.
The typical TV executive/producer is into the moral relativism thin full throttle. They do not want any show that makes value judgment. Fan support is the only thing that lets a show survive.
B5. Evil shadows and Pres Clark.
Crusade. The drak and, if the rumors are true, the earth government.
Firefly. The union and every body has a gun (oh my).
Star Trek. Kirk always has a love interest, Ohura (sp?) and Sulu are not white and are authority figures. This was not PC at the time.
It is this politically incorrect attitude of these shows that gets them killed, not their Sci-Fi-ness. Look at the various ST spin-offs. They were PC and ran way beyond the point anybody watched them.
The fear of the moral relativist is that people will watch these shows and start making judgments. Go and read a book called "Escape Velocity" by Christopher Statshief (sp?). In the book the good guys start an education program disguised as popular TV shows. Fabian conservatism.

You read my mind. Voyager was the worst of them, in my humble opinion.

The Cylons ARE Monotheistic... "there is only one true god. Not my god your your god, just god"
The Human characters believe in the "12 tribes" and gods, and are polytheistic.
I've read some about the relgion of BSG and timeline and stuff, but I won't ruin it because I hear Season2 is supposed to flesh out that storyline.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Stargate.
They all have P90s for cripe's sake. :D

I agree in part, but its more than just PC.
I read that the reason BSG (the new one) had a hard time being made was that 'suits' were CONSTANTLY telling producers/writes to "lighten it up".
To depressing, to somber, not enough humor or sex... that kind of stuff.
Now is that "PC" or just misguided/outdated TV Exec. mumbo jumbo.... who knows.
BUT, I totally agree that when they buck the trent and "be real" you really end up with a superior product.
To: dartuser
Yeah the acting in that is the best, Kirk by himself getting mad, "no no no no, I- won`t - go - down-" then when he has to get Spock mad, "You pointy eared half breed! Your side show freak, You dog boy!" ha ha! That`s what made that show, just a lot of screen presence and strong characters. I remember when I was a kid watching that, I thought they were real people, then they had Star Trek the next Generation which I thought was a joke. "Star Trek the politically correct generation" I thought who the hell acts like that in real life?

Good morning.
Deep Space 9 was the name of the space station show and I agree that it was the best of the franchise.
