MORFORD: 14 Thoughts For The New Pope - Condoms. Female priests. Stop gay bashing. And dammit,...
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 4/20/5 | Mark Morford

OK, first things first.

They say you're a hard-line conservative, new pope Joseph Ratzinger (a.k.a. Benedict XVI) of Germany. Very old school and drab, a real lover of repressive, bitter, orthodox doctrine. No fun at parties. Catholic in chains. What glorious times of joy and progress the church is in for, millions now say, dejected sarcasm dripping from their once-hopeful mouths.

See, most spiritually progressive peoples the world over were sort of hoping for a new pope who would recognize this as a historic opportunity,

I think it's because on the conscious level they are smugly pleased with their defiant and devious behavior, but waaay down in the most primal of thoughts, they hear that little voice telling them that they should be submitting to God. It bothers them and makes them feel uneasy, until they can get back to ignoring it.

What an utterly hideous column. I feel like I need to clorox my eyes after reading it. Someone suggested he join with the Unitarians--actually, he'd probably find them too Christian for his taste. Maybe he should found his own "church" and leave the rest of us alone.

why bother reading articles from people who wouldn't know where the confessional was if their life depended on it...

these clowns in the media who criticize the Catholic Church and Catholicism are nine times out of ten not even Catholics and those who are, are not PRACTICING CATHOLICS...

Catholicism is not a democracy and the sooner the liberal loonies learn this the better...

I have seen more compassion and tolerance from the KKK and the Neo-Nazis. I wonder what color sheets Mr. Morford wears to his work? Rainbow colored? Designer sheets, definitely. But sheets none the less. This is bigotry in it's purest form.

Oh, come on. Can you really compare Martin Luther with liberal Catholics and Henry VIII? That's just childish and silly. While all three wanted to change the Roman Catholic Church, their motives were extremely different.

Congrats on the new Pope, by the way. But what's up with the "Throne of Peter". I've heard that term thrown around a lot. Seems kind of pompus.

Absolutely, these people have no clue whatsoever. They claim to be people of faith when they are indeed secularists. more here

The neocommunists have learned that there never will be a revolution. Their tactics have changed to trying to break down EVERY standard that our society has. When there are NO RULES for anything, there will be no basis for opposing neocommunism or int's prime objective, the destruction of capitalism.

That, of course, is the basis for the coming ground swell against Benedict. The commies, fags and freaks will work against him because he sees them for what they are, commies, fags and freaks. Most other churches in America have been destroyed and the Roman Church is a target for the same.

I guess they can go and find a religion that suits their purposes....Martin Luther did...Henry VIII did....why not them................. You must realize that the Catholic Church is the BIG LEAGUE. If the perverts of the world can take it down, they will have silenced all (meaningful) moral opposition (or so they believe).

What a flamer...Mark MOFO may not be gay but he does a good impression of an enraged gay

I recall an amusing phrase concocted by William F Buckley a long time ago - the FAGWRATH OF PINK QUEERS...

That is, everyone knows the church has stolen and repressed and rewritten the world's (deeply feminine) religious history a thousand times over, as it sees fit.

And with good reason, since that "deeply feminine" religious history brought us nothing but human sacrifice, slavery, and a backward (and brief) existence in grass huts, devoid of culture and knowledge. The Catholic Church squashed the old religions because people strongly preferred what the Catholic Church had to offer.

Surprise, surprise. Why doesn't the dirty bugger (I say that advisedly) leave the Catholic Church to do its own thing? Where is his live-and-let-live spirit?

Oh yes, the Pope should take advice from those that despise everything the church stands for. < /sarcasm >
