I just went over to CNN for some amusement. After three negative man-on-the-street reaction interviews in a row, I was not amused and went back.

A truly amazing day. Those who sought to overturn 2,000 years of tradition and teaching will be crestfallen, and rightly so. Cardianl Ratzinger (now Benedict XVI) will have his hands full dealing with the barbarians both within the church and without, but his experience under Pope John Paul II The Great has readied him for this day and this hour.

God bless him and us all.

For those who are interested, here are links to two documents on homosexuality produced by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on the new Pope's watch. They explain why Andrew Sullivan is having the vapors.

Cardinal Machiavelli has protested, saying the voting machines were rigged and too difficult to use. Machiavelli says the German guy stole the election.

I bet Pope Benedict XVI can get some sweet tickets to next year's World Cup in Germany.

I wonder if his Holiness can hook me up with some sweet mid-pitch seats?

I know I'm late to the party, but one thought strikes me: isn't this a rather fast Papal election?

Though I'm not Catholic, I rejoice in the choice.

It is so wonderful to get to a thread & see it has 2700+ posts !

but I am sure most will be worthwhile in comments/observations.

I was very impressed with what I had previously read about Cardinal Ratzinger... only down side is his age but I guess it is good to have a mature man with good qualities, even for a short time...

May the Lord give him a clear mind & good wisdom during his remaining years.

I am thrilled they chose another strong conservative. Sends a message out...

Thanks for thread R4E...
