Freak wave damages cruise ship, injuring 4
CHARLESTON, S.C. A seven-story wave damaged a cruise ship returning from the Bahamas over the weekend, smashing windows, flooding more than 60 cabins and injuring four passengers.
The Norwegian Dawn was diverted from its route when the ship ran into rough weather on the way back to New York on Saturday.
The 965-foot-long vessel docked in the Charleston harbor for repairs, and departed for New York early yesterday after a Coast Guard inspection, officials said. It was expected back in New York by noon today.
"The ship was hit by a freak wave that caused two windows to break in two different cabins," Norwegian Cruise Line said in a statement. It said 62 cabins flooded and four passengers suffered cuts and bruises. The wave reached as high as deck 10 on the ship, company spokeswoman Susan Robison said yesterday.

Oh, the humanity.
Yet another reason not to go on a cruise...
Saw this report on Fox..some passengers were whining its the ship crews fault....bottom feeding lawyers are circling as we speak.
There line of defense: it was an WMD... Wave of Mass Descruction
Oh, good grief-do they think the ship's crew conjured the wave somehow? I suppose there are people greedy enough not to care how stupid they will look suing a cruise ship line over an act of God.
Sounds to me, after reading the whole article, that the cruise line did the right thing - they refunded 50% of the cruise price, plus gave out vouchers for 50% off another cruise. Sounds very fair. No-one was hurt seriously, the waves were in no way the fault of the cruise line, it's staff, or ship.
But as others have pointed out - lawyer buzzards are always circling for scraps and carcasses.
Re circling shark-lawyers; The Dawn pulled into Charleston, home of some of the most shark-like firms in the business. It was clearly the largest ship yet here and twice as big is the Majesty, here at the same time. Do you expect Mayor-for-life Jo' Riley Dada to let the line get away with sending less than its best?
No, Our-mand Derf' and his Motley crewe will Joye fully extract their pound of flesh.
This is really unfortunate -- the cruise line industry has taken a beating lately -- first it was the Norwalk virus, now this.
I've been on five cruises -- no major problems on any of them. To me, they are still the best way to travel.
they should have paid the liner the extra cash for added excitement
Any pics of the wave? That would be neat.
Bush's fault.
I never thought of them as violent.
Bush's fault.

Of course -- isn't everything his fault? :)

It's more than fair -- it was exceptionally generous. Generally speaking the cruise lines are not obligated to give you anything for Act of God occurrences like this.
I will NEVER take a cruise.
Must have been some REALLY big windows!!!
...DRIVING is just SO much safer!!!
