TAMPA, Fla. -- State investigators found no evidence that Terri Schiavo had been abused or exploited by either side of her family, according to documents released by Florida's Department of Children and Families.
The agency investigated 89 complaints dating back to 2001, when Schiavo's feeding tube was removed for the first time and the legal battle surrounding her right-to-die case intensified.
The calls alleged that the brain-damaged woman was being mistreated by her husband and her parents for financial gain. One complaint alleged that Schiavo's parents were selling videos of her through a Web site; another said Schiavo's husband wasn't spending money intended for her rehabilitation.
But investigators said they found no evidence that either her husband or parents were exploiting her, and often noted in their records that they found Schiavo well cared for on their visits to her Pinellas Park hospice.
The agency released the records Friday under court order.
Schiavo, 41, died last month after her feeding tube was removed for the third time, ending a bitter court battle between her husband, Michael Schiavo, and parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, over whether she would have wanted to live in a vegetative state.
The repeated allegations of abuse were based partly on bone scans showing Terri Schiavo suffered fractures and statements she made to family and friends that she was unhappy in her marriage.
Schiavo's husband has denied harming his wife. His lawyer said the fractures resulted from osteoporosis caused by the woman's years of immobility and complications of her medication.
Robert Schindler declined to comment there on the release of the DCF documents. An attorney for Michael Schiavo did not immediately return calls
It's not what I'm willing to accept. It's what a court of law repeatedly believed.
Have you ever stood at the bedside of someone who was hooked up to machines or tubes, had not cognitive ability and you were told by doctors there was no hope?
Most of us, as we get older, have done so, sadly. And every time it's happened, someone has elbowed me and whispered "don't ever let that happen to me."
It's believable because it's how most people feel.
Simply false. Whatever might have been done as a response to pain during therapy, the bone scan showing multiple fractures was done in 1991 or 1992. It was hidden from the Schindlers until accidentally discovered in the legal proceedings ca. 2000.
If you read the report carefully, Pearce was merely stating what was already agreed to in previous court rulings about her 'state'. He conducted no new finding of fact, he recommended no new finding of fact, he consulted no one about the possibility of a new finding of fact with regards to "PVS".
After the 'facts' were determined in the initial case, there was no further legal questioning that could be done, hence the Congressional order for a 'de novo' review.

All 89 complaints were false? Right. With Greer at the helm of course it would be so. I am not surprised. This is just tragic and the media, joined up with the Greers, Felos Death Group with their false polling, just want to twist the knives a bit more in the backs of the Shindlers the loving parents and have Micheal Schiavo the "loving husband" totally warped, disgusting.
i asked you a simple question a couple times which you NEVER did directly answer....whatever...just please don't be on any juries.
Nice strawman arguments you're throwing up there. But please, keep believing those doctors who never even examined Terri. Hey, maybe they slept at a Holiday Inn last night and are more talented than I thought.
this is worse than being air-sick
Uh, I haven't mentioned Greer. Have I?
I've mentioned Wolfson, 3 other GALs, neurologists, etc. But keep trying to change what I've said. LOL
Gray areas always seem to confuse the literal minded.
Look at her picture again. Was she human or subhuman Peach? If you find in your infinite wisdom that she was in fact subhuman then why can't you admit that all the "subhumans" should die?
Not for 15 years and as many doctors who examined Terri over those years.
Why is there such a fuss when the "facts" were so clear as you state?
The whole country including the Senate are just a bunch of fools to worry themselves over a such a useless person eh??
Maybe you haven't noticed but the Senate has moved so far away from this and DeLay's untoward comments about judges that I personally have never seen a bunch of older white guys move so quickly.
Okay Peach, which relative did your expedite the death process for? Your mom, your dad, your sister, your brother? Which one, peach? Have you pulled the plug on some shell of a once-loved fellow human?
Heidi Law, one of Terri's nurses in '95 and '96, in her affidavit stated that she fed Terri small mouthfuls of jello on several occasions with a spoon.
Her affidavit can be found at http://www.terrisfight.org/
Terri's death kicked everyone in the proverbial arse.
It would be a huge mistake to think this died with Terri.
Actually, the GOP has now called me four times in 2 weeks and told me that they are hearing what I am hearing from nearly all my friends and family....that the Senate and House had NO business getting involved in something that has traditionally been handled quietly between doctors and the patient's family.
And since Congress has backed away from this faster than a basketball player going for the basket, I think they are hearing it too.
Yup I have. And I've discussed it openly on this forum several times. But if you think I'm going to discuss it again, and with the tone on this thread, you're mistaken.
Thanks. I'd heard that. The narrow point I was looking to corroborate wat whether Terri was always with a feeding tube from 1990 until 2005. I think the answer to that is "yes." I did find a number of sources that state the last swallow test was done in 1992, and there is no way a feeding tube would have been removed without either a court order aimed at precipitating natural death by dehydration, or a medical test confirming the patient's ability to swallow.
I think it is also agreed that no swallow tests were done following the one in 1992 (or thereabout). Terri's family and some doctors take that as a sign of "giving up" on Terri's life. Michael and Judge Greer take it [absence of further attempts at swallowing] as only a practical and sensible concession to the inevitable.
