FORT MYERS, Fla. -- An 81-year-old woman preparing to take a test drive at a car dealership hit her husband, a salesman, a car and a tree before running into a wall. "She must have panicked," said Joe Sica, sales manager at Honda of Fort Myers.

The new Honda Accord shot backward after Dorothy Byrum got behind the wheel....the car was written off.

women that age do that. my mother was in her mid-70s and ran dad's new car up over a parking meter.

she got her sandal caught in the gas pedal.

happens all the time to older women who wear sandals.

I didn't know a car could "shoot backward" of it's own accord

Remember the media has been obsessed with the nonsensical idea that cars take off in various directions on their own since the ridiculous 60 Minutes story about all the Audis "suddenly accelerating."

This is so unfair! Studies have shown that the elderly drive at least as well as alcohol-impaired baboons.

This woman has her license? Good grief! We had an elderly woman drive onto a frozen pond here a few years ago. She thought it was the parking lot for the restaurant. The car broke the ice and she died although her passenger survived. They had to put up those big 3 ft high posts after that to keep someone else from doing it (like someone else would be that clueless!)

Yeah, they take over and possess those sitting in them.
It's almost horrible.

Yeah, I know!
And if you have to drive 'em anywhere, there's always some slowpoke out there bound to get in front of you as well, just daring you to drive over him.

The new Honda Accord shot backward after Dorothy Byrum got behind the wheel and apparently stepped on the wrong pedal . . .

Duh!!! The brake?

Lol, it might just be me, but does anyone else think that is the most bassackward phrasing possible?

What's age got to do with it? I thought all woman drove like that.

I think there is a good reason why you have that screen name.

Barb would love to have a Humvee ~ I'm not gonns spend $100K on an SUV, so she's stuck with the full size Eddie Bauer Bronco. :)

Honestly, I prefer the military version.
The civvie version just looks annoying to me.
And the H2 isn't even really a Humvee.
:(
GRRRR!
If tehy're going to slap the Hummer moniker on a vehicle, it had better darn well be Humvee based.
NOT Tacoma pickup truck based.
(The H2's frame is based off of some pickup truck.)
