FORT MYERS, Fla. -- An 81-year-old woman preparing to take a test drive at a car dealership hit her husband, a salesman, a car and a tree before running into a wall. "She must have panicked," said Joe Sica, sales manager at Honda of Fort Myers.
The new Honda Accord shot backward after Dorothy Byrum got behind the wheel....the car was written off.

I didn't know a car could "shoot backward" of it's own accord. If it was a SUV it would have done this all on its own...

Picture taken next to the old folks home?

Panicked? Panicked??! At what? Perhaps a menacing-looking SUV was staring at her; sizing her up; preparing to pounce. They always single out the elderly, the young, and the sick or injured.

This conspiracy where the car companies only sell cars with gas pedals that get stuck to the senior citizens is terrible!

States should seriously think about re-testing senior citizens every 2 or 3 years once they pass the age of 70.

What's age got to do with it? I thought all woman drove like that.

States should seriously think about re-testing senior citizens every 2 or 3 years once they pass the age of 70. I have long contended the same. I am surprised that states haven't instituted retesting for all drivers every 5 years or so just as a revenue raising scheme.

This is often the kind of incident that ends a senior's independent life and lands him or her in a nursing home for the remainder. I know; it happened to my father.

"I didn't know a car could "shoot backward" of it's own accord. "
that's why it's called the honda accord.
