‘You're going to create a lot of innocent victims’ (Liberal Rant on Florida Self Defense Law )
Democracy Now ^ | April 6, 2005 | Amy Goodman

Posted on 04/07/2005 11:33:39 AM PDT by marylandrepub1

(Executive Director of the Florida Coalition to Stop Gun Violence ): 'This bill is literally a jihad against public safety . In your house, you won't have to retreat. Who might be in your house besides the EMS, police officer, my nephew that has the key to my house? When you meet somebody in the middle of the dark in the house, are you going to say, “Did you break into my house?” No, he's going to say, I’m going to repeat the NRA’s magic words, I felt threatened and I’m going to pull the trigger. What's going to happen in cars? Now, a car is your castle. Does everyone approach your car going to be a criminal? It doesn't make any difference what the bill says. What you are doing here is empowering gun owners to act. All they’re going to hear is I don't have to retreat, and if I feel threatened, I can pull the trigger. You're going to create a lot of innocent victims.

You know, somebody breaks into your house, you know, you can apply deadly force(right now). When you do shoot somebody(prior to this new law), the police ask you to set down and tell us what happened. The courts have always ruled in favor of the man that was defending himself. So, it's not true that you cannot defend yourself for the current law.'

A sampling from the April 6th, 2005 debate on Florida Self Defense Law between :

Marion Hammer , lobbyist for the National Rifle Association and the executive director of the United Sportsmen of Florida. She is the former president of the NRA.

and

Arthur Hayhoe, executive director of the Florida Coalition to Stop Gun Violence

Who might be in your house besides the EMS, police officer, my nephew that has the key to my house?

As long as these folks knock politely, and don't smash down doors or break windows to break in, they'll be quite safe.

Gee, this makes the ordinary citizen like cops, politicians, or judges: "if I feel threatened, I can pull the trigger".

Equality, what a novel idea!

Hate speech, plain and simple. He called gun owners paranoid socio-paths.

>>So I guess if a gunman goes on a rampage this person would rather get blown away than see another citizen take the gunman out?<<

Oh, he doesn't think that will happen. He thinks he's immune. And when he finds out differently, he will (assuming he survives) become a Republican, of the subspecies Liberals Who Just Got Mugged.

The wild wild west makes for either polite people or dead people.

Very definitive and very binary.

Works for me.

This Should be a US wide policy.

Who might be in your house besides ... my nephew ...

If his nephew is in my house in the middle of the night without an invitation, he may well be injured. Perhaps he ought to stick to honest labor.

there isn't a jury in Florida that would convict

Once true, no doubt. Sadly, I don't think I would count on it any more.

Wonder if this guy is concerned for his burglar friends. Maybe he is concerned that, while robbing someone, they might have a gun and shoot him. Maybe that is his real motivation for saying this.

Why would we take this idiot seriously when he can't even write in English?

The gun grabbing scumbag Hayhoe admits: ARTHUR HAYHOE: There is a concealed weapons law. I have a concealed weapons license. Now, let me tell you after this bill is signed by the governor, all the gun owners out there are going to hear, I don't have to retreat, and if I feel threatened, I can pull that trigger.

(Arthur Hayhoe, executive director of the Florida Coalition to Stop Gun Violence)

Apparently, only gun grabbers should be allowed to have guns.

So, if this is a jihad, do I yell, "Allah Akbar" and shoot.

Do I get extra points if, instead of shooting, I blow myself up, along with the criminal?

Do I get bonus points if the intruder is a child?

God, liberals can't live with them, can't shoot 'em. (that would make a good song)

The criminals are innocent. For example, the "misunderstood" MS-13 gang member who just B & E'd your house and wants to chop your arm off with a machete.

Nice touch, the machete. Quaint.

Maybe the thugs will move to NY as the innocent victims are not allowed to protect themselves.

Oh, certainly! Perhaps I can persuade the good lad to postpone the chopping until the arrival of the police officer who will always be right there to defend my life.

"Hope you don't mind the wait."

"No, no! Please, go on about your business. I'll just hang out on the sofa until he gets here."

"You're too kind."

"It's the least I could do."

Fools. Wasn't Florida one of the first concealed carry states?

There should be an abundance of public records reflecting the direction crime took with the first public carry laws.
