SSPX PRESS COMMUNIQUÉ: On the death of Pope John Paul II

SSPX PRESS COMMUNIQUÉ

On the death of Pope John Paul II

Menzingen[, Switzerland] Easter Saturday 2 April, 2005

The Superior General of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X and his two assistants, together with all its members: bishops, priests, brothers, sisters as well as the faithful, join in the prayer of the Universal Church at the announcement of the passing of the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II. We commend his soul to the mercy of God the Father and the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

There will be a Requiem Mass said in each house of the Society for the repose of the soul of the Holy Father.

The Society of Saint Pius X, founded by Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, applauds the fight undertaken by Karol Wojtyla for the protection of life and his efforts in the moral sphere. Nonetheless, it feels it a duty to repeat that it has always disapproved of the indefatigable efforts of Pope John Paul II towards ecumenism, efforts which have led to a weakening of the Faith and of the defence of Truth.

The Society is aware of the superhuman task awaiting the future Supreme Pontiff and prays the Holy Ghost to enlighten the Cardinal Electors. It hopes the new Vicar of Christ will be able to take up the helm of the Church with a steady hand and make good the damage caused in the wake of the Second Vatican Council: liturgical unity and the unity of Faith have been dissolved and doctrinal errors have spread amongst all the clergy.

While we wait and hope for this, it is now time to pray for him who has just entered eternity.

Bishop Bernard Fellay Superior General of the SSPX

I have a real issue with @#$%heads who deliberately, knowingly, and with malice aforethought, misrepresent other people's faith and religious practice.

Geez these threads are so much fun- it is so nice to see good Catholics bashing the heck out of each other... I must have missed that lesson in sunday School

When was "love they neighbor" replaced with "thou shalt call anyone with a different opinion a &$@#head"

I am reminded of my next door neighbor when I was growing up- always in church every week, in the front row, holier than everybody... and then screaming her lungs out at the neigbors when she got home.

Yes, I agree that prior to the writings of the four gospels and Paul's letters to the local churches spiritual truth (dogma if you will), practices existed within the immediate group (some new by Jesus and much on the Jewish revelation by God in the O.T.) who followed Jesus and beyond and even if they had never been written down by the apostles and Paul they "spiritual truth and dogma" would have been passed down even to us through some oral tradition. John writes that there would not be enough room in all the books in the world to contain all the works (and I would add, even revealed truth) that Jesus did (and taught), but these are written down that you may believe that Jesus is the Son of God."
The "catholic church" is one thing, but "The Catholic Church" is another. The "catholic church" is an evangelistic church. The "Catholic Church" has circled the wagons and obfuscated/hidden as in a camouflage mural the pure message of "The Lord Jesus" amidst a very large heap of ritual, doctrines of men, exorbitant symbolism from spurious pagan influences. I apologize if this offends you, but the Good News of Jesus must be presented simply and without all the added human trappings.

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

One of the key reasons I no longer call myself a Catholic.

...people who worship anyone other than God because she has an 'in' with him or something...

You have born false witness. This statement is a lie.

If you want to learn, here is a good starting place.

Hey- some others have cleared up this idea in this thread- that was what I was hoping for- what is this 'false witness' thing? I asked a question...

no,... I asked (from people who DO such things) why you would pray to someone other than God (i.e. Mary)

Referring to an article about Catholicism, and specifically citing a passage about the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, you said:

I have a real issue with people who worship anyone other than God...

Now you ask me to believe that the premise of this thread, and your quotation in post 2, have NOTHING to do with the matter I have just quoted. Right.

Did you mean to suggest that the late Pope John Paul II "worship[ped] anyone other than God because she has an 'in' with him or something..."?

Let your "yes" be "yes", and your "no" be "no".
